A Medical Assistant performs various clinical and administrative tasks within a clinical patient-facing environment. The Medical Assistant will be responsible for maintaining patient records, preparing patients and rooms for examination, assisting physicians with exams and orders.

Duties and responsibilities:

• Obtains patient’s weight, height, and vital signs.
• Records the chief complaint as stated by the patient.
• Record Patient’s medication as stated by the patient.
• Prepares exam rooms or procedure rooms for the provider.
• Assists the provider as needed during the patient's exam or procedure.
• Administers medications or injections following a written physician order.
• At the physician's direction and following a written physician order, obtains education material for the patient.
• Calls in prescriptions, following a written order by physician.
• Perform laboratory and diagnostic testing request following a written physician order.
• Documents in the medical record according to policy and procedure.
• Reviews procedure results and prepares them for physician.
• Maintains patient confidentiality.
• Using CPR Skills when required.
• Disposing of biohazard waste according to OSHA standards.
• Practicing OSHA safety standards.
• Conduct self in professional manner always and in all situations.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications/Education/Licenses:

• Medical Assistant Certificate required.
• Cardiac Tech of Diploma and Phlebotomist Certificate preferred.
• CPR or BLS required.
• High School Graduate or Equivalent.
• Bi-lingual English/Spanish preferred; must be able to read, write and speak English.
• One-year experience in a clinical setting.
• Basic computer knowledge; MS Word and MS Excel, internet, document with Electronic Health Records and/or authorization system with minimal typing/spelling errors, send e-faxes and email.
• Strong people skill, independent decision making and customer service oriented.
• Knowledge of medical terminology.
• Annual OSHA Training.
