Secondary Education Counselor (Alternative Education Location)

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master’s Degree in counseling from an accredited college/university
  • Valid Michigan School Guidance Counselor License
  • At least two years experience as a guidance counselor in a culturally diverse community
  • Preference will be given to candidates with experience working with at-risk students
  • Preferred: Experience working with master schedules in a trimester setting
  • Knowledge of the Michigan Merit Curriculum/high school graduation requirements
  • Familiarity with PowerSchool is preferred
  • Has demonstrated experience working with high school students and parents
  • Has undergone a physical examination, by a licensed physician, that documents capability to perform required duties
  • Has an electronic fingerprint clearance from a criminal history record check

    The intent of this counseling position is to serve as a critical link between students, parents, and teachers, to provide individual and group counseling to students. Collaboration with staff is expected, as well as utilization of the knowledge of Native American Intergenerational trauma to provide cultural insight and information about how students succeed and promote an environment of healing and empowerment for students and families.
