Position Details

Qualifications:

  • Valid State of Michigan Teaching Certification;
  • Valid State of Michigan Administrative Certification or the ability to obtain;
  • Minimum of 5 years successful classroom teaching;
  • Minimum of 5 years experience as a coach or administrator preferred;
  • Proof supporting high expectations for student achievement and behavior;
  • Ability to communicate effectively and relate positively with students, parents, staff, and community;
  • Ability to consistently and appropriately apply disciplinary guidelines for behavior;
  • Demonstrated high knowledge of the MTSS process
Completed the LETRS professional development training or willing to obtain certification

Essential Job Responsibilities:

  • Assists with establishing a safe, pleasant, and effective educational atmosphere and administers student discipline programs, while incorporating educational components in order to be proactive in meeting the needs of students;
  • Communicates effectively with parents and the community to continue positive school/community relationships;
  • Providing professional development in each of the five major reading components (Phonemic Awareness, Phonics, Fluency, Vocabulary, Comprehension)
  • Providing professional development related to the administration and analysis of instructional assessments;
  • Supervision of professional and support staff assigned to the building;
  • Modeling effective instructional strategies for teachers;
  • Training teachers in data analysis and using data to differentiate instruction;
  • Coaching and mentoring colleagues, educators and administrators in early literacy;
  • Working with teachers to ensure that evidence-based reading programs (such as comprehensive core reading programs, supplemental reading programs, and comprehensive intervention reading programs) are implemented with fidelity;
  • Training teachers to diagnose and address reading deficiencies;
  • Working with teachers in applying evidenced-based reading strategies in other content areas, prioritizing coaching and mentoring in classrooms where it will have the greatest impact.
  • Ensure building/district compliance with Michigan’s Third Grade Reading Law;
  • Support of reading leadership teams within the school;
  • Continuing to increase his or her own knowledge base in best practices in reading instruction and intervention;
  • Modeling and coaching whole and small-group instruction with students, for each teacher in grades K to 3;
  • All other responsibilities as assigned by the Building Principal or Superintendent
