Position Details
DeTour Area Schools in the beautiful Eastern Upper Peninsula, MI, is currently
hiring a full time K-12 Band and General Music Teacher. The candidate will be
adept in the instruction of elementary general music, beginning and middle
school band, and for teaching various music and performance-based middle/high
school courses such as, music appreciation, and musical theater performance.
Possible other Elective Courses assigned as well.
Qualifications include:

• Valid Michigan music teaching certification (JX, JQ) and/or required

credentials.

• High level of ability and knowledge of both instrumental and vocal music

instruction.

• Ability to utilize quality instructional practices to meet student learning

needs.

• Ability to prepare students in their musical interests for high school and

beyond.

• Ability to prepare students for music competition festivals.
• Visionary outlook on the role of music in learning.
• Willingness to direct performances /concerts and to attend after school

commitments.

• Ability and desire to work collaboratively in an innovative, exploratory

teaching setting.

• Ability to relate positively with students, colleagues, and parents.
• High level of interpersonal skills to communicate verbally and in writing.

Salary: BA Step 1- $41,704 with $12,000 per year signing bonus, for the 1
st three
