SummaryThe Division of Cardiovascular Medicine, Department of Internal Medicine, is seeking a Research Administration to oversee the division's pre-award activities for sponsored research. The person in this position would manage the division's growing portfolio of sponsored research, oversee a team of research administrators, communicate with key stakeholders throughout the proposal process, and ensure quality submissions.

Responsibilities*
  • Oversees and reviews divisional pre-award sponsored research activities required for the submission process. Communicates relevant Sponsored Programs requirements and procedures to faculty. Create systems and procedures to ensure timeliness and first-time quality of proposals.
  • Provides functional supervision to the Pre-Award grants management team. Responsible for distribution of workload among team members. Related duties may include, but are not limited to:
    • Review and communication of sponsor instructions for applications
    • Preparation of key elements of applications, including the PAF, budget, subcontracts, progress reports, and close-out materials
    • Participation in budget negotiations with some sponsors
    • Administration of T32 training grants
  • Communicates with key stakeholders including CVM Post-Award team to ensure continuity of sponsored projects, the Grants Administration staff in the Department of Internal Medicine, the Medical School Grants Office, and ORSP. Additionally, this position will interact with the Clinical Trials Support Unit (CTSU) regarding projects which may be more appropriately processed through that venue.
Required Qualifications*
  • Bachelor's Degree and 5 or more years of experience with research grant and contract knowledge, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Experience managing submissions from a wide variety of sponsors including the National Institutes of Health, the American Heart Association, industry contracts, and clinical trials.
  • Candidates must be proficient in typical business software such as Excel, Word, and Powerpoint
  • Candidates must have strong integrity, be highly proactive, have a high degree of problem solving skills, retain a high sense of ownership and accountability for workload, be flexible and resilient when facing change, provide excellent customer service, exercise independent judgement, manage competing deadlines, have a high attention to detail, and possess superior communication skills.

  • Experience in direct management
  • Experience with eResearch, Business Objects, M-Reports, and M-Pathways
  • Experience with lean processes and procedures
Background Screening
Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third party administrator to conduct background screenings. Background screenings are performed in compliance with the Fair Credit Report Act. Pre-employment drug testing applies to all selected candidates, including new or additional faculty and staff appointments, as well as transfers from other U-M campuses.
