Title: Public Health Analyst - SDoH
$70,000 - $80,000 / Posted Thru: 7-7-24
Location: Hybrid - Lansing, MI Office
Purpose:This position will support priority policy projects, particularly related to closing disparity gaps and public health connections to building sustainable and equitable infrastructural resources and assets that enhance health equity programs. The Public Health Analyst will serve to support project planning and tracking as well as the development of comprehensive program management strategies that support closing health disparities with internal and external partners.

Dutiesand Responsibilities:


Manage closing disparity grant progress and maintain relationships with grantees.
  • Analyze progress reports, compile annual reports, provide/ coordinate grantee technical assistance.
Support coordination efforts associated with aligning efforts across the Department and eventually across state agencies to close disparity gaps.
  • Track and provide executive level summaries of over-arching 2024 and 2024 SDoH metrics at the Departmental level as well as monitor and track SDoH metrics within MDHHS program areas.
  • Coordinate opportunities to expand work and connect efforts beyond the Department. Plan brainstorming sessions for SDoH focus areas. Develop post brainstorming sessions summaries.
  • Provide summaries to Senior Strategy Manager to support development of tools and resources to promote health equity.
Support Senior Strategy Manager’s efforts to develop strategies that provide an opportunity to address upstream prevention that could positively impact the health of future generations.
  • Facilitate meetings to connect with agencies that promote health equity and aim to close health gap disparities and infrastructure partners, including food and tribal partners, to provide health policy recommendations during infrastructure planning.
  • Research opportunities for federal funding to support this work.
Support health equity focus area of the SDoH Strategy.
  • Research best practices nationally and provide recommendations to Senior Strategist.
  • Plan and assist with facilitation of round table discussions, community forums, and other community events to inform SDoH Strategy and specifically policy needed to support health equity efforts locally.
Other duties.
      • Facilitate and provide materials for presentations and meetings with internal and external stakeholders.
      • Research opportunities to connect work across state agencies and participate in workgroups to learn about collaboration opportunities.
      • Write documents across a variety of formats and audiences to support decision making by leaders and to easily digestible public content, PowerPoints, Summaries, Reports.
      • Stakeholder management of internal and external people and groups, through written and verbal communication as well as attending meetings.
      • Identifying, overcoming, and escalating barriers to progress.
      • Operating successfully in a rapidly evolving, sometimes high-pressure environment.
      • Always represent the best interests of MDHHS and MPHI.
      • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications/Requirements:


Education: A bachelor’s degree is required; master’s degree preferred.
Experience: Minimum two years ofprogram management with health/human services experience. Minimum of two years’ experience developing complex programs and grants management/monitoring required. Must demonstrate prior ability to get up to speed on new content very rapidly.

Work Environment and PhysicalRequirements:Position has potential for fully remote or hybrid work (subject to Office of the State Employer determinations on State of Michigan Work from Home Policy and MDHHS epidemic orders). If in-person work is required, this position will be based in Lansing, and may require limited in-state travel. Requires a valid vehicle operator’s license and access to a vehicle to attend off-site meetings, conferences, and trainings.
