Michigan State University is Hiring a Student Well-Being Coordinator / Educational Program Coordinator II Near East Lansing, MI

This individual will report to the Assistant Director of Student Affairs under the Associate Dean of Admissions, Student Life, and Inclusivity in the College of Veterinary Medicine and will work closely with existing college personnel and teams, including the CVM Cabinet, inclusive of the Dean, Assistant and Associate Deans, and Department Heads, Hospital Director, Healthy U at MSU, Director of Inclusive Excellence and Well-being), and embedded wellness personnel in Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS). This individual will also work with existing committees, personnel, and working groups, including those involved with the CVM Values initiative, Mentorship Program, well-being group, and Wellness Advocate. This position will also serve as a liaison to university wellness resources, particularly within Human Resources, the Division of Academic and Student Affairs, CAPS, and the Office of institutional Diversity and Inclusion.

The successful individual will also need to build strong relationships with diverse stakeholders and communities within the college. The CVM is a community that supports the training of veterinary medical and veterinary nursing students. CVM staff embody a wide variety of roles in the college, ranging from research and administrative support to patient care in hospital settings. CVM faculty work in a wide variety of environments and units in their clinical, service, scholarly, and educational roles. Our community also values and embodies diversity of background, ethnicity, nationality, ability, and perspective. This position will also require fluency with organizational change practices. Specifically, this individual will need to coordinate, and conduct needs and resource assessments, evaluate findings, and use these findings to assist college leadership and stakeholders in prioritizing, developing, and implementing programmatic activities.

  • Lead a comprehensive wellness program.

–Coordinate, plan, and facilitate wellness activities for students.

  • Lead peer mentoring program for students.
  • Responsible for collecting data regarding wellness activities and accreditation reporting.
  • Organize and lead peer mentoring programs for students.
  • Plan and implement classes, secure speakers, host seminars, and assist promoting healthy lifestyles.
  • Develop promotion and publicity plans for wellness throughout the student body.
  • Work with CVM Healthy Community Strategic Planning group to assist units in cultural change efforts related to students’ well-being.
  • Ensure that adequate wellness services are available to populations within the college and that individuals know how to access them.
  • Assist and provide information to the Associate Dean to assist CVM leadership in revising and amending policy to positively impact college well-being and inclusion in alignment with the CVM values.
  • Where appropriate, coordinate, and/or deliver programming on best practices in personal and organizational well-being and wellness related topics (nutrition, time-management, etc.)

Unit Specific Education/Experience/Skills

Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a four-year college degree program in Educational Theory and Methodology and/or a specialization in the designated area of expertise; one to three years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in planning and overseeing seminars and conferences including public relations, organizing and disseminating training materials and information both written and web-based; budget and records maintenance and computer support; experience in supervision, database, spreadsheet, word processing, desktop publishing, knowledge of HTML programming and web site development and management; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Desired Qualifications

Experience in a medical school setting, health and wellness, social work, and background in Veterinary Medicine, Experience in a University setting. Life coach certificate.
