Responsible for developing or testing computer software applications, systems or services. Develop and recommend solutions for heterogeneous data store environment in the Technical Operations group. The data environment consists primarily of MySQL, PostgreSQL Vertica, and Aerospike. Own high availability production database systems; Work with infrastructure engineers, developers, and architects to troubleshoot issues, optimize performance, define and implement database best practices; Review application data models and make recommendations for improving overall data architecture; Provide data modeling solutions by designing and maintaining new logical and physical data models; Write well-designed, testable, efficient SQL queries, code, and scripts; Execute full lifecycle software development practices and standard operating procedure; Interaction with software engineering and DBA teams in order to understand their database requirements for new products or features; Perform database administration tasks, including automation, performance monitoring, system tuning, and SQL query optimization; Work with security and operations to manage access control to databases; Monitor databases for problems and diagnose their origin; Identify and resolve production application issues; Plan and provide operational oversight in database maintenance with minimal impact to customers; Plan detailed deployments with database and software engineers that use advanced techniques to minimize or eliminate downtime when making schema changes; Participate in prototyping and proof of concept system development and benchmarking; Evaluate the merits and benefits of potential systems enhancements to improve overall performance and address/meet evolving business requirements; Evaluate new database technologies and tools to meet growing challenges; Plan and implement backup and recovery strategies; Diagnose and develop/recommend solutions to address system, software, security and other complex database issues; and Participate in code reviews, ensuring best practices are followed. The offered base pay range for this specific position (job code TSKBP16959), based in Redmond, WA (but telecommuting permitted 100% from any location in the U.S.), is $200,600 to $230,600
Microsoft has different base pay ranges for different work locations within the United States, which allows us to pay employees competitively and consistently in different geographic markets. Individual base pay depends on various factors, in addition to primary work location, such as complexity and responsibility of role, job duties/requirements, and relevant experience and skills. Base pay ranges are reviewed and typically updated each year. Offers are made within the base pay range applicable at the time.
At Microsoft certain roles are eligible for additional rewards, including merit increases, annual bonus, and stock. These awards are allocated based on individual performance. In addition, certain roles also have the opportunity to earn sales incentives based on revenue or utilization, depending on the terms of the plan and the employee’s role. Benefits/perks listed may vary depending on the nature of employment with Microsoft and the country work location. U.S.-based employees have access to medical, dental, and vision insurance, a 401(k) plan and company match, short-term and long-term disability coverage, basic life insurance, and wellbeing benefits, among others. U.S.-based employees also receive, per calendar year, up to 10 scheduled paid holidays, and up to 80 hours Holistic Health Time Off. Additionally, hourly/non-exempt employees accrue up to 120 hours paid vacation time, and salaried/exempt employees have Discretionary Time Off (DTO).
