Description
Job Summary: MidAmerica Nazarene University, located in Olathe Kansas, invites qualified candidates to apply for an Assistant/Associate Professor in Social Science. The position is a full-time faculty appointment. Candidates for this position should be able to demonstrate a commitment to higher education delivered with a Christ-centered worldview, a strong commitment to the servant leadership model, and be able to successfully perform the following responsibilities.
Position Description:
  • Teaches a variety of sociology and psychology social science related courses and other elective courses that fit with specific interests and qualifications.
  • Advises students in course selection and career/graduate school planning.
  • Provides leadership for the sociology program within the Department of Social and Behavioral Sciences and assists the Department Chair with program management tasks.
  • Engages in program growth strategies. Department is interested in expanding its focus to include addictions support/counseling, non-profit leadership, and health psychology.
  • Participates in scholarly activities.
  • Provides leadership for the minor degree programs in sociology and social justice.
  • Serves on Department and university committees.
  • Works collegially with Departmental and cross campus faculty.
Qualifications
Qualifications:
  • Evidence of high-quality teaching and desire to actively participate in student mentorship is highly preferred.
  • A doctorate in sociology, psychology, or related field. ABD with strong experience will be considered.
  • A record of successful experience in higher education and/or other educational environments, including mentoring students.
  • History of successful engagement with social service agencies. Prefer experience working for, supporting, or collaborating with faith-based organizations.
  • A track record as a collaborative, servant-driven leader with outstanding written, oral and interpersonal skills.
