University Overview:

MidAmerica Nazarene University (MNU) is a private, liberal arts university with a variety of undergraduate, graduate, and adult education programs, accredited by the Higher Learning Commission. Located in the Kansas City metropolitan area, MNU seeks to educate students to serve with purpose within the educational context of the liberal arts, and a Wesleyan-holiness theological perspective. Position Description:

The Pioneer Trek director is a part-time position. The director will lead the Pioneer Trek program, which is designed to curate experiential opportunities linked to three areas of travel, learning, and service:

  1. Local, domestic, and international travel linked to mission focused work and service. 
  2. Local, domestic, and international travel linked to vocational preparation and service. 
  3. International study abroad travel linked to enriching learning experiences at other CCCU and Church of the Nazarene affiliated locations.

Position Reports to: Chair of the Department of Christian Ministry and Formation

Essential Skills:

  • High sense of responsibility
  • Effective communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, especially with travel plans
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, especially with young adults.
  • Strong leadership skills and ability to work well in teams

Essential Duties:

  • Collaborates with MNU departments to set annual calendar for all trips
  • Identifies partnership opportunities with Nazarene Missions International
  • Coordinates with site leaders on logistics of all trips
  • Plans travel arrangements for all trips (i.e., airline tickets, vehicles, documentation, insurance, travel policies, travel agency, trip fees, etc.)
  • Develops a marketing and recruitment plan for students, faculty, and staff and maintains program website

Responsibilities:

  • Manages application processes for all participants
  • Manages approval processes for all trips, including academic trips
  • Manages annual budget, assists in fundraising activities, and works with University Advancement on scholarships and donors
  • Develops a program of pre- and post-trip reflection opportunities and multicultural sensitivity training that helps form students to be thoughtful servants in the global mission of the church
  • Partners with the Christian Ministry and Formation Department on connecting trips to Intercultural Experience courses
  • Identifies study abroad opportunities and works with the Registrar’s Office on promotion and execution
  • Collaborates with the Alumni Office on creating “alumni and friends” international trips
  • Finds ways to communicate stories of how students have been transformed through trip experiences

Qualifications


Desired Qualifications: 

  • Master’s degree from an accredited institution
  • Mission experience
  • International travel experience
  • Higher education teaching experience
  • Member of the Church of the Nazarene
