Position Available: Comptroller
Position Overview:
The ideal candidate will be responsible for ensuring consistent corporate financial strategy through a range of avenues such as managing and allocating accounts, financial statements, and tax data. The candidate will also be the point of contact for banks, auditors, and tax authorities.
Reporting to the President/CEO, the Comptroller is responsible for reviewing, keeping,
and maintaining records of all financial transactions within the organization.
Responsibilities:
• Prepares monthly journal entries, maintains cost allocation spreadsheets, and
updates as appropriate. Allocates all pooled expenses, such as salaries and
common costs to the appropriate funding source and cost center
• Uses allocation spreadsheets and trial balances to forecast future events and
compare these results with the budgeted figures
• Review daily bank deposits/withdrawals and Credit Card transactions
• Reconciles Credit Card Statements against transaction ledger
• Reviews general ledger activity for accuracy and necessary reclassifications
• Provides reconciliations of various general ledger accounts for monthly close
• Produces financial statements, other reports, and prepare for various finance
and budget meetings
• Produces and issues invoices to customers
• Analyzes results of financial statements and significant variances in budget
• Processes accounts receivable and payable
• Processes payroll withholding taxes and sales taxes for all businesses
• Prepare quarterly reports for all businesses and prepare W-2 for all employees
• Review preparation of annual Vendor tax report forms 1099s and prepare employee W-2
• Completes any special projects as assigned by the CEO and management
• Works to identify potential cost overruns and unbudgeted expenses
• Review monthly bank reconciliation and monitor daily bank balance and cash
flow
• Determines adherence to capitalization rules for the agency and all funding
sources
• Reviews fixed asset tracking for additions and disposals of fixed assets
• Maintains current registration and insurance for all fleet vehicles, trailers, and
heavy equipment
• Review supporting schedules for the monthly fixed asset roll-forward and
analysis to detail and explain variances
• Review accounting entries for depreciation expense, asset transfers, additions,
and asset retirements
• Evaluate current policies and procedures
• Responsible for the accounting, integrity, and control of all tangible and intangible assets and the corresponding review and post-accounting entries for depreciation, amortization, asset transfers, additions, and asset retirements
• Complete credit applications on behalf of the company and take lead on new account configurations
• Assist with Bond, License, and Permit applications
• Apply for and close out Material Purchase Certificates with applicable state agencies
• Other duties as assigned by CEO.
Qualifications:
• Applicant must hold a Bachelor of Science Degree in Accounting or Finance from
an accredited university. A Masters in Accounting/ Business and/or a CPA/CMA
preferred.
• 3-5 years of accounting experience preferred. Prior supervisory experience is desirable
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, strong analytical and organizational abilities, and effective negotiation and presentation skills
• Computer literate with advanced proficiency in the use of computerized Excel spreadsheets
• Intuit QuickBooks Accounting software experience is highly desirable
• Service-orientated, self-starter who possesses strong project management and system and problem-solving skills
• Must be able to effectively prioritize and manage multiple tasks to ensure deadlines are met and work is complete and accurate
