Middle Georgia State University is Hiring a Student Assistant (Cochran Campus) Near Cochran, GA

About Us

Middle Georgia State University (MGA), a multi-campus, baccalaureate and graduate degree granting public institution, is the most affordable public state university in Georgia. MGA has five campuses-Macon, Cochran, Dublin, Eastman, and Warner Robins, all located in central Georgia-and global outreach through its fully-online campus. Department Information

The Center for Career & Leadership Development provide career planning services and student leadership programs to MGA students across all five physical campuses and online. Signature services and programs include internship and career planning appointments, Handshake, student leadership programs such as Knights LEAD and Emerging Leaders, the Student Leadership Conference, career fairs, etiquette dinners, and career and major exploration.

Job Summary

In this position, students will have the opportunity to assist with the daily operations of the Center for Career and Leadership Development (CCLD) by aiding in the provision of student-centered career, leadership, and professional development services as well as providing support for career advisors, program coordinators, and the Executive Director.

Responsibilities

  • Helps with daily operations of running the office (answering phones, making copies, distributing mail, assisting walk-ins, etc.)
  • Communicates professionally on the phone and in-person to resolve or escalate inquiries
  • Schedules appointments for the Center for Career and Leadership Development staff
  • Provides assistance to students on general resume and cover letter techniques
  • Answers general questions on interviewing, professional attire, career fair prep, LinkedIn, and job and internship search
  • Maintains the Professional Closet, including sorting donations, organizing clothing, and writing receipts
  • Uses camera to take professional headshots, edits as needed, and sends completed photos to students
  • Handles approval of employers, jobs, and internships on university job board system, Handshake
  • Instructs students on taking career assessment tests (Focus2 and ONET Interest Profiler)
  • Promotes the Center for Career and Leadership Development at virtual or in-person school events, such as Student Expo, Orientations, Career Chats, info tables, etc.
  • Conducts presentations related to our services and Handshake.
  • Markets Center for Career and Leadership Development events on campus via hosting information tables around campus or virtually and encouraging attendance
  • Uses Handshake and Presence to enter data related to sign-in sheets, number of event attendees, etc.
  • Uses Excel and Google Sheets to manage spreadsheets for various programs
  • Provide support to the student leadership programs as needed
  • Assists the staff and the Executive Director of the Center for Career and Leadership Development with other duties as assigned; may take on a special project based on student skills and interests to include but is not limited to social media, student outreach, student events in Presence, employer approvals in Handshake, student leadership programs

Required Qualifications

  • Must be currently enrolled as a student at Middle Georgia State University
  • Must be enrolled in at least 6 credit hours
  • Minimum GPA of 2.5
  • Must be able to work a set schedule Monday - Friday.
  • Knowledge of computer programs such as Microsoft Office including Word and Excel, survey platforms such as Qualtrics and Google, social media platforms, Canva, etc.
  • Skills: critical and creative thinking, oral and written communication, and attention to detail.
