EDUCATION:

  • Bachelor’s in Computer Information Systems or related field
  • Minimum of 3 years of appropriate experience
  • Highly proficient in VMware server infrastructure and Storage Area Networks (SANS)
  • Microsoft Certification required*
  • Cisco Networking Certification required*
  • CISSP required*
  • BICSI/RCDD Certification preferred
  • Comparable relevant work experience
  • or willing to attain within 1 year of hire


EXPERIENCE:

  • Five years of successful computer classroom instruction or comparable educational technology experience
  • Demonstrated success in effectively working with adult educators
  • Track-record of implementing technology projects, meeting set goals and timelines

POSITION FUNCTION/PURPOSE

Provides knowledge, expertise and leadership in the areas of Network, Infrastructure, Telecommunications and Security.

Manages the installation and maintenance of local area networks and data communication equipment to protect the security of the network, to ensure data integrity and retention of the district’s systems, and supervise other personnel charged with administering the servers and network electronics. This position oversees all MISD-hosted data operations and is overall project manager for all network and server infrastructure projects and responsibilities.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

MANAGEMENT

1. Provide management in the areas Network, Infrastructure and Security. This includes recruitment, retention and supervision of staff.

2. Exhibit strong knowledge and understanding of the role and integration of technology in public schools.

3. Manage staff work load related to computer network(s) and servers

4. Design, install, and maintain network equipment and software

5. Install network boards, drivers and workstation software

6. Assist in trouble shooting, diagnosing and repairing network and data communication problems

7. Coordinate computer activity with remote computer sites to help alleviate the loss of data communication between mainframe sites

8. Assist in the development of budgets, network specifications and upgrades, as well as updating network policies as necessary.

9. Collaborate with the Executive Director of Technology and other district leaders to guide, develop, and maintain the district’s Long-Range Technology Plan.


COMPUTER SYSTEMS:

1. Back-up administrative LAN servers and NAS storage devices, keeping accurate records of retention schedules and disaster recovery procedures

2. Assist school personnel in installing software

3. Set and enforce security and software restriction policies on network computers in accordance with best practices. Assist operations staff with duties in the computer room.

4. Assist with other Technology and Information Management Department Responsibilities as assigned.


PROFESSIONAL GROWTH AND DEVELOPMENT

1. Observe professional and ethical standards in accordance with generally accepted community standards and the Texas Education Agency code of ethics

2. Secure advance training in any new equipment, software being considered for adoption by the District.

3. Stay up-to-date professionally through the selection of quality development opportunities.


QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

SPECIAL KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS:

  • Knowledge of microcomputer and server configurations
  • Familiarity with local area network topologies, wiring schemes, and operating systems
  • Knowledge of Windows personal computer and server operating system installations

  • routers, wireless devices, etc.)
  • Knowledge of data communication equipment and terminology
  • Ability to effectively direct staff and communicate, verbally and in writing, with school
  • personnel, systems staff and computer technicians, regarding policies and expectations
  • Ability to coordinate, schedule, and monitor complex projects
  • Ability to work well with a diverse population
  • Ability to supervise staff and resolve conflicts
  • Ability to multi-task and handle stress

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Must be able to maintain emotional control under stress. Occasionally required to travel to facilities within the district. May be required to work after school and weekends.
