Position: Home/Parent Liaison

Department:Federal Program & Assigned Campus

Reports: Director of Federal Funds & Principal

Exempt Status: Non-Exempt

Pay Grade: 3

No of Day: 197

Position Function/Purpose

To act as a liaison between the school and the parents of migrant students and provide accurate documentation which will satisfy government criteria

Major Responsibilities

  1. Supervise the migrant family and individual student records and the continued transfers to Region 18 ESC and the National Migrant computer
  2. Increase the communication between campus staff and parents through home visits, elephone and other methods
  3. Communicate daily with principals and teachers to secure information to be obtained form or given to parents
  4. Increase the attendance of students through direct methods; Regularly communicate to coordinator of federal methods; Regularly communicate to coordinator of federal programs, and migrant counselor concerning student and parent progress
  5. Recruit families that meet the qualifications for the migrant program
  6. Annually attend migrant update training for recruiting families, completing the certificate of Eligibility, and other state and federal rules and regulations
  7. Assist with the migrant students physicals and dental screening, make appointments with doctors for follow-up and transport students
  8. Assist families in securing clothing, food, and other emergency services
  9. Attend in-service training for Migrant, Title I, SCE and others
  10. Provide principals, teachers, and parents with information on other related medical, social, educational, etc. available in Midland
  11.  Assist with Title I, Migrant, and SCE parental involvement activities and meetings
  12. Translate communications on campuses into Spanish for parents; Attend parent meetings to assist with translations
  13. Communicate to student, parents, and other community members the MISD policies and programs
  14. Assist with co-sponsored Migrant, Title I, SCE and other student activities like step up to success, Life Management training, impact, and other after school programs to improve success in school
  15. Work with Migrant coordinator, counselor, clerk and other staff members to maximize services available to students
  16. Regularly check secondary students for excessive absences and for three-week progress reports; Directly communicate to parents about their student's progress, through home visits, telephone, and other methods

Qualification Requirements

  1. High School Diploma or GED
  2. The ability to speak, read and write Spanish
  3. Basic computer skills
  4. Basic typing and filing skills
  5. Good people skills
  6. Possess, or be willing to apply for a TEA Paraprofessional Certificate (personal expense)
