Description

JOB Summary:

The Director of Development will play a crucial leadership role at The Midnight Mission, overseeing all aspects of our development efforts. This position is responsible for designing and executing fundraising strategies, managing donor relations, and leading our development team towards achieving annual fundraising goals. The ideal candidate will bring creativity, a strategic mindset, and a proven track record of success in securing major gifts and meeting significant fundraising targets in the nonprofit sector.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement comprehensive fundraising strategies to meet or exceed the organization’s development goals.
  • Cultivate and nurture relationships with new and existing donors, focusing on major gifts.
  • Oversee the management and utilization of fundraising databases, particularly NXT, Blackbaud, and Raiser's Edge, to optimize fundraising efforts and donor engagement.
  • Lead, mentor, and foster a culture of growth and development among staff members, encouraging creative problem-solving and innovative approaches to meet challenges.
  • Collaborate with the executive team to align development activities with the overall mission and goals of the organization.
  • Prepare and present regular reports on development activities and progress towards goals to the Board of Directors and other stakeholders.
  • Represent the organization at community events, conferences, and public meetings to enhance the organization’s visibility and expand fundraising opportunities.

Qualifications


Qualifications

  • Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in business administration, Communications, Nonprofit Management, or related field. Advanced degree preferred.
  • At least 7 years of experience in nonprofit development, with a strong focus on major gifts fundraising.
  • Demonstrated ability to meet and exceed fundraising targets in a nonprofit environment.
  • Extensive experience with donor database management, specifically NXT, Blackbaud, and Raiser’s Edge.
  • Exceptional leadership skills with a track record of nurturing staff and promoting a culture of innovation and high performance.
  • Strong communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills, capable of building and maintaining productive relationships with donors, board members, and the community.
  • Strategic thinker with a knack for creative problem-solving and the ability to manage complex projects and multiple priorities effectively.
