About The PositionThe Associate Director for Feeding Change will apply exemplary analysis, project management, and communication skills to drive the development and execution of an array of program deliverables from concept to completion, including amplification to targeted external audiences. This position reports to the Senior Director of Feeding Change
Role Objectives
  • Project Management 40%
  • Oversees day-to-day execution of the project work plan including managing timelines, work plans, deliverables and stakeholder engagement to ensure timeliness and completeness of tasks
  • Oversee and support content as it relates Feeding Change projects, programming, private roundtables, meetings, workshops, and/or Labs
  • Contributes significant content expertise throughout project workflow (e.g., planning, outputs)
  • Coordinate with internal and external stakeholders to support Feeding Change projects
  • Support Associates, and Sr. Associates in the execution of projects and deliverables
  • Research & Writing : 40% FTE
  • Lead and support the development of a range of written products, including funded reports, white papers, action and issue briefs, research summaries, grant applications, reports, concept notes, proposals, blog posts, and slide decks.
  • Conducting background research to guide panel content development and framing
  • Conducting literature reviews, including both academic and grey literature, to guide research projects
  • Ensure that all reports are complete, well-written, and reviewed by relevant internal and external stakeholders
  • Identifies trends and emerging areas in the field, as well as suggests those that could be integrated into portfolio
  • Communications: 15%
  • Serve as Feeding Change lead on communications including developing messaging and content for the website, social media, and for all communication channels
  • Coordinate with internal stakeholders on consistent messaging and communication strategies and deliverables
  • Facilitate, moderate, and/or present on Food Systems and Feeding Change content areas as needed
  • Administrative Support: 5% FTE
  • Support Feeding Change with programmatic and administrative assistance including scheduling, notetaking, formatting, copy-editing, creating PowerPoint decks and other visuals, and managing Excel spreadsheets and other duties as assigned
Responsibilities
  • Research, synthesize, and coordinate the writing of reports, policy & issue briefs, key collateral, and other communication materials
  • Provide oversight and support for Feeding Change’s programming including Global Conference, Future of Health Summit and other events
  • Manage a broad array of activities throughout a project cycle including partner interviews and engagement, survey development and implementation, thought leader cultivation, and roundtable facilitation.
  • Conduct research and thematic analysis on Food Systems Issues to identify trends, system barriers, and policy opportunities to propel ecosystem change.
  • Build relationships with external stakeholders including industry, government, non-profit, academia, philanthropy, and other influential leaders.
  • Foster a supportive, inclusive, and creative work environment.
  • Manage Feeding Change portfolio data within the Milken Institute’s existing systems (Salesforce, SharePoint, etc.)
Requirements
  • Advanced degree required (masters’ level or equivalent) with 6-8 years of work experience in the Food Systems sector.
  • A proactive, highly organized, detail-oriented, and hard-working professional with excellent project management skills
  • An excellent and fast writer with a strong copyedit skillset
  • Multitasker able to handle complex projects in a fast-paced environment, requiring the ability to effectively prioritize and respond promptly to internal and external communications
  • Motivated self-starter displaying high productivity and follow-through
  • Team-oriented individual who seeks out tasks when work is completed
  • Detail-oriented and flexible problem solver who can synthesize diverse streams of information and switch comfortably between academic and real-world thinking.
  • Roll-up-your-sleeves executer that is comfortable with engaging in new and nebulous projects which will include developing an approach upfront while constantly refining along.
  • Comfortable public speaking, either in small meeting settings or for large audiences
  • Proficient in Microsoft 365 (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint) and Salesforce (desired)
Working Conditions & Travel RequirementsThis position will work in a professional office environment. This person will also be required to travel occasionally to other offices and/or venues to assist with events as needed, requiring occasional work outside of traditional hours. International along with domestic travel is possible. Additionally, this position requires interacting virtually on a regular basis with Milken Institute staff based in other locations in the United States and around the world.

This position will work a hybrid schedule consisting of three (3) days per week reporting in-person to the respective office location (Tuesday – Thursday), with the remaining two (2) days working remotely. Please understand, this schedule is subject to change in the Institute’s sole discretion.
