Milton-Freewater Oregon is a multicultural community located in the northeast corner of the state within ten miles of Walla Walla Washington. The Milton-Freewater Unified School District is now taking applications for the following position:

Behavior Support Specialist (TOSA) - Gib Olinger

SUMMARY:  

The Teacher on Special Assignment (TOSA) – Behavior Support Specialist is responsible for providing comprehensive support in promoting positive behavior management strategies and crisis response within the K-3 school environment. This role involves collaborating closely with classroom teachers, administrators, and support staff to address escalated behavioral concerns, implement behavior intervention plans, and enhance overall school-wide behavior management systems. Additionally, the TOSA will oversee Tier III attendance issues, ensuring timely intervention and support for students facing attendance challenges.

QUALIFICATIONS:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each responsibility and essential function satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Individual will hold a valid driver’s license.

EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor's degree in Education, Psychology, Counseling, or related field (Master's degree preferred).
  • Valid teaching license/certification
  • Previous experience in behavior intervention, crisis management, or
    school counseling preferred.
  • Knowledge of Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS)
    framework and Multi-Tiered System of Support (MTSS) models
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate effectively
    with diverse stakeholders.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information
    with discretion.

 SKILLS:

  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize, and work in a high-energy department
  • Extremely detail-oriented and organized
  • Possess a familiarity with agencies and services available in the community to provide support to children and families
  • Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent Computer Skills: Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Access, Outlook, and Powerpoint) and web-based applications
  • Possess excellent interpersonal, verbal, and writing skills
  • Flexible and amiable to change
  • Ability to exercise tact, diplomacy, independent judgment, and aptitude for handling and processing privileged information with professional integrity
  • Ability to work effectively with staff, community, and local district personnel
  • Ability to work independently.

RESPONSIBILITIES and ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Behavior Support: Provide guidance and support to classroom teachers
in implementing evidence-based behavior management strategies and
interventions.

Crisis Response: Serve as a primary responder for escalated behavioral
incidents, employing de-escalation techniques and crisis intervention
protocols as necessary to ensure the safety of students and staff.

Functional Behavior Assessments (FBA) and Behavior Intervention Plans (BIP): Conduct FBAs and collaborate with the school's
multidisciplinary team to develop and implement individualized BIPs
for students exhibiting challenging behaviors.

Tier III Attendance: Monitor and address Tier III attendance issues,
working collaboratively with families, teachers, and administrators to
identify barriers to attendance and implement targeted interventions
to improve student attendance rates.

Professional Development: Facilitate professional development
workshops and training sessions for staff on behavior management
strategies, crisis response protocols, and attendance intervention
techniques.

Data Analysis: Collect, analyze, and interpret behavior and attendance
data to inform decision-making and evaluate the effectiveness of
behavior support initiatives.

COMPENSATION:

The position starts fall of 2024. The current salary range is $45,516.00 - $83,946.00 (depending on level of experience and education). The Milton Freewater School District offers a competitive salary and comprehensive benefits package that includes:
