MILWAUKEE ART MUSEUM is Hiring a Coordinator of Campus Safety and Security Near Milwaukee, WI

Job: Full-time, Salaried, Exempt (40-45 hours a week)
Supervisor: Director of Campus Safety and Security
Salary: Negotiable 

General Purpose: Management level position and is assigned to assist the Director of Campus Safety and Security in providing administrative and management oversight in the planning and coordinating of security operations for the Milwaukee Art Museum (MAM) campus and grounds. This position schedules, trains, and supervises appropriate staff to secure the museum, provide for the safety and comfort of visitors during public hours and at special events, and provides for the security of the facility and the MAM art collections. 

Lead day-to-day management of the external security operations of Museum Center Park (MCP) and the ancillary properties of the greater MAM and War Memorial campus.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist Director of Campus Safety and Security in providing administrative and management oversight in the planning and coordinating of security operations for the greater Milwaukee Art Museum campus. 
  • Assumes responsibility for department operations in absence of the Director or Manager.
  • Coordinate all scheduling matters. Coordinates staff deployment, develops shift assignments, developing weekly schedules, determines manpower needs for special events; ensures substitute coverage is available for absences, and monitors subordinate performances in the execution of their duties and delivery of services.
  • Coordinate biweekly payroll and approve timecards of uniformed staff. Coordinate weekly billing with Finance and provide security billing estimates to various museum departments.
  • Ensure that uniformed personnel are fully trained to provide an effective and rapid response to critical incidents. Review and proofread all departmental incident reports to ensure accuracy and timely completion.
  • Responsible for the implementation and delivery of all safety related training programs for and on behalf of the department. This includes, but not limited to, emergency operation plans, conducting routine drills, Adult/Child CPR and AED use; basic First Aid; Field Training Program, annual in-service training programs; and Communication Center training. Ability to maintain instructor certifications for required training. Develops and recommends new, annual refresher and remedial training process to the Director. Maintains training records. 
  • Proactively and routinely patrols and provides security to entire museum campus, including Milwaukee Art Museum, Milwaukee County War Memorial, Museum Center Park, Judge Downer House and Gas Light Building, to observe, report, and document activities/incidents/violations of law.
  • Supervise and/or take command of serious incidents. Assess need for additional emergency services. Direct response and keep appropriate personnel informed of developments. 
  • Provide oversight of all special event planning. Adjusts work schedule to provide a presence during large scale and/or special events. Determine staffing needs based on event orders. Serve as department representative at MAM group planning committees/groups associated with events.
  • Available to respond to campus 24/7 as emergency situations develop.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements

Appropriate education and/or experience may be substituted on equivalent basis 

Education: 

Associates Degree in criminal justice, public or business administration, emergency management, or related field. Bachelor's degree is preferred.

Experience: 

Minimum 5-7 years of progressive experience in private security, public safety, law enforcement or military. 3-5 years management experience in profession with emphasis in managing security needs for special events, investigations, training and emergency management. 

Proficiency in the use of Microsoft software, i.e. Word, Excel, Power Point. 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Exceptional analytical and organizational skills. Possess attention to detail in order to maintain a high level of accuracy. Capacity to discretely work with confidential and potentially sensitive information. Effective interpersonal skills and capable of working in a dynamic professional team environment. Mature and responsible demeanor.

Experience coaching, training and/or teaching subject matter to students or employees.

Licenses/Certifications:

Certified Institutional Protection Manager certification (CIPM), Physical Security Professional (PSP), or Certified Protection Professional (CPP) desirable. 

Desirable Certifications: Currently hold or obtain within 6 months of employment: FEMA Professional Development Series, IS-100b – Introduction to Incident Command System (ICS).

State of Wisconsin Department of Justice Law Enforcement Standards Board Training course encompassing Defensive and Arrest Tactics, Professional Communication, Crisis Intervention/Management, Interview and Interrogation , Report Writing, etc. is preferred. 

CPR/AED for Adult/Child and Basic First Aid Certification as well as Instructor Certification required within 6 months of employment.

Currently hold or obtain within 3 months of employment: Transportation Security Administration, Certified Cargo Screening Facilities Program, Sessions 1-8.

Physical Requirements:

Incumbent must be able to effectively operate position-specific safety and security equipment.

  • Manual Dexterity: Work requires regular speed and accuracy for most of the working day
  • Physical Effort: Work requires handling average weight materials or equipment
  • Working Conditions: Work setting varied between indoor and outdoor locations.
  • Hazards: Ability to work outdoors in all temperatures and possible exposure to inclement weather.

Ability to work varying shifts, weekends, and holidays as required. Incumbent must be able to lift and drag various weights, including an average adult person; routinely walk distances, climb, bend, climb stairs, run, and possess strength to restrain and/or bring others under physical control. Occasionally, position may require individual to respond to critical incidents necessitating a higher level of physical exertion and rigor. Ability to stand for extensive periods of time. 

Typical work week: First shift Thursday-Monday. Scheduling flexibility is required to accommodate changing business needs.
