Organization Overview

Minnesota Assistance Council for Veterans (MACV) is a statewide nonprofit organization with a mission to end Veteran homelessness in Minnesota. MACV provides comprehensive programs in the areas of housing, employment, and legal services to support Veterans and their families throughout Minnesota who are homeless or at risk of homelessness. MACV operates a budget over $14 million annually and has a team of approximately 100 employees throughout Minnesota. The organization has office locations throughout the state, with administrative functions centralized within a headquarters office based in St. Paul.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Responsible for case managing MACV residents in both of our transitional and permanent housing programs. All property management issues will be reported to the Regional Leader.
  • This position will also be responsible for outreach efforts, grant compliance, and reporting to ensure established goals are met with the housing program.
  • Will participate in interviewing Veterans (client screening/intakes) for our housing programs. This position could also provide assessment for eligibility and case management for other MACV related grants that assist Veterans and their families with both homelessness and the prevention of homeless situations.
  • Will connect participants to necessary services by coordinating services and working with other service providers to ensure access, eligibility and follow-through by participant and provider.
  • Overseeing the completeness of detailed documentation as required. This includes completion of monthly housing reports within 10 days after the month closes.
  • Works with other program staff to ensure compliance with grant outcomes and performance expectations to ensure established goals are met.
  • Provides support for administration of housing programs too include completing and overseeing client information, while ensuring the completed information is maintained in client files.
  • Provides monthly and quarterly reports as required by the headquarters office.
  • Assists with assessment and eligibility for referral to appropriate MACV housing program.
  • Inspect and monitor all conditions in the Transitional Houses (TH) and Permanent Supportive Housing (PSH). They are to report as needed to the Property Manager and the Regional Director on the conditions of the houses and needed repairs.
  • Assists with case management activities of the organization by assisting with tasks related to appointments, referrals, follow-up, and other services.
  • Maintains an Outreach plan with respect to our housing programs.
  • Develops individual housing and case management plans with each veteran in the Housing program and maintains regular contact to ensure goals are being worked towards. Coordinates with Veterans to successfully transition to appropriate permanent housing
  • Maintains regularly updated, detailed case notes for each client
  • Maintain client accountability towards expectations of the program and work to resolve client issues and barriers to successful outcomes
  • Provide support to Housing Case Manager as backup contact for residential clients on that position’s case load.
  • Develops/supervises network of referral sources to MACV housing programs. Builds partnerships with local businesses and other community organizations to advance the regional outreach goals.
  • Represents the organization at public events as required.
  • Analyzes community needs to enhance current programs and plan for future growth in support of MACV’s Strategic Plan.
  • Participates in local community activities and meetings to keep informed of veteran, local, state, national issues as it pertains to MACV housing.
  • Provides advocacy and community organizing and facilitates involvement with other community agencies to promote services, establish community networks, and provide appropriate information and referral services.
  • Provides organizational presentations as requested.
  • Maintains and builds a positive, productive, open and helpful work environment that implements MACV’s values and policies to ensure that all clients and employees are treated with respect, dignity and equality.
  • Establishing and monitoring program practices to ensure quality of client services.
  • Coordinates scheduling of housing activities and discusses weekly schedule.
  • Provides other support as required
Requirements:

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • Associate or bachelor’s degree in related field or at least three years’ experience in a related field.
  • Knowledge of local social service programming and resources
  • Two or more years of experience implementing human service programs focused on ethnically, socially and/or economically diverse populations.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated experience working within diverse communities, which include people of various ages, gender, sexual orientations, national origins, income levels, ability levels, religious affiliations, races, criminal backgrounds and languages.
  • Experience utilizing MS Office and web-based programs.
  • Provide proof of a current and valid driver’s license issued in the state of residency.
  • Have or be willing to obtain adequate automobile insurance.
  • Meet the company Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) criteria.
  • Have a vehicle.

PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s degree in social work, human services or similarly related field.
  • Knowledge and experience with supportive housing funding streams including LTH, Section 8 and HUD VASH.
  • Residential and/or clinical experience with persons experiencing mental illness, chemical dependency, co-occurring disorders, and homelessness.
  • Knowledge of Veterans culture and Veterans benefits.
  • De-escalation and crisis intervention skills.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Ability to sit for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to lift, carry, push and/or pull up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to file documents.
  • Ability to enter data into a computer.
  • Ability to interact verbally with internal and external audiences.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS

  • Must be willing and able to travel between sites.
  • Must be willing to work occasional evenings and weekends as scheduled.
  • Must be willing to carry a cell phone.
