The Department of Corrections - Education Department is seeking a Director of Student Support Services! The Director of Student Support is a new position and the Director will lead the creation and promotion of education programs that ensure students in Department of Corrections educational programs are welcomed, supported, and encouraged, and that DOC academic programs and related experiences are reflective of the students, their interests, and current/future needs. The Director has the responsibility of developing and managing services that facilitate both academic achievement and social-emotional well-being and growth across both secondary and postsecondary education programs. Managing academic/career advisors and multi-lingual learner supports, the Director ensures that services are compliant with state and federal laws and facility requirements while building a strong education community within the Department of Corrections.
Minimum QualificationsTo be qualified for and considered for this position, ensure that your resume contains descriptions of your work experiences sufficient for comparison against the requirements stated below and indicate the beginning and ending month and year for each job held.
  • Four (4) years of relevant student support services in an education setting
  • A Master's degree in Education or a related field may substitute for 18 months of experience, a Bachelor's degree in Education or related may substitute for one (1) year of experience
  • Demonstrated leadership experience. Leadership experience can include experience as a supervisor, lead worker, team lead, project lead, or completion of a State of Minnesota leadership program (e.g. ELI or SLI), or comparable leadership program.
  • Excellent written and oral communications skills
  • Experience working with diverse groups of stakeholders
Preferred QualificationsThe following qualifications are strongly desired of applicants seeking consideration for this position:
  • An advanced degree in Education, or a related field
  • Experience providing student support services in a corrections-based education program
  • Experience providing student support services in a secondary or postsecondary education program
  • Experience managing or supervising professional level employees
  • Experience working in corrections-based education program
  • Experience managing partnerships for a state agency or higher education institution

Additional RequirementsThe selection process may include screening the top candidate(s) on their criminal history, predatory offender registration, offender associations and/or other applicable background information in accordance with Department of Corrections’ policy. Top candidate(s) must pass a criminal history check which includes successful completion of all sentencing and/or restitution requirements of law enforcement jurisdictions, including probation.
Employment history/reference checks, including incidents of sexual harassment, will also be conducted on the top candidate(s) in accordance with Department of Corrections’ policy. This may include a review of job performance and discipline records.
New employees will be fingerprinted within the first 30 days of employment.
