The Department of Corrections is hiring a Special Education Teacher at the Red Wing Facility. This position will:
  • Plan and provide for appropriate learning experiences for students with disabilities in a variety of educational settings.
  • Create a flexible program and learning environment that provides specialized instruction for students with disabilities, such that the students benefit from the general education curriculum to the greatest extent possible when supported with supplemental aides, accommodations, and other needed supports.
  • Serve as the special education case manager for an assigned case load, ensuring that due process procedures and timelines comply with federal and state regulations, as directed by the DOC Director of Special Education.
This position will have direct contact with incarcerated students.
Minimum QualificationsTo be qualified for and considered for this position, applicants must meet all of the minimum qualifications listed below. Ensure that your resume contains descriptions of your work experiences sufficient for comparison against the requirements stated below and indicate the beginning and ending month and year for each job held.
  • Bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited college/university.
AND
  • Possession of or ability to obtain a valid K-12 Special Education Minnesota teaching license.
  • An applicant with a Tier 1 license may be considered if the DOC is unable to recruit an applicant with a Tier 2, 3, or 4 teaching license in the specific licensure field required. Click here for MN's Tiered Licensure Infographic*

Preferred QualificationsThe following qualifications are strongly desired of applicants seeking consideration for this position:
  • Possession of a current Minnesota Tier 3 or 4 teaching license.
  • Experience working in an education setting.
  • Experience working in a correctional setting.
  • Full-time teaching experience as a licensed teacher.

Additional RequirementsThe selection process may include screening the top candidate(s) on their criminal history, predatory offender registration, offender associations and/or other applicable background information in accordance with Department of Corrections’ policy. Top candidate(s) must pass a criminal history check which includes successful completion of all sentencing and/or restitution requirements of law enforcement jurisdictions, including probation.
Employment history/reference checks, including incidents of sexual harassment, will also be conducted on the top candidate(s) in accordance with Department of Corrections’ policy. This may include a review of job performance and discipline records.
