The Minnesota Department of Health is seeking a Laboratory Scientist 2.
Primary Responsibilities Include:
  • Serve as a training lead in preparation of culture media and reagents.
  • Manage media inventory and order media supplies.
  • Oversee QC performance on prepared media.
  • Perform media/reagent preparation, glassware cleaning and preparation, decontaminating and disposing of lab waste, care of animals, and media QC and bacterial setups.
  • Participate in equipment and laboratory room preventive maintenance
Minimum QualificationsA related associate degree may be substituted for six (6) months of experience. A related bachelor's degree may be substituted for one (1) year of experience. A related master's degree may be substituted for one and a half (1.5) years of experience. A related doctorate degree may be substituted for two (2) years of experience. To facilitate proper years of service crediting, please ensure that your resume clearly describes your experience in the areas listed and indicates the beginning and ending month and year for each job held.
Must have at least two (2) years of experience in the following areas:
  • Microbiological testing experience in a public health, hospital-based, clinical-based, or academic laboratory setting.
Additional minimum qualifications to be assessed during the interview:
  • Excellent communication skills, including the ability to communicate in a clear, concise, effective manner.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in a CLIA or CAP accredited laboratory.
  • Ability to effectively plan, assign, and direct work.
  • Ability to set priorities and act accordingly.
  • Experience with Excel spreadsheets, data organization and analysis, pivot tables, sorting, and formulas.
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written directions and standard operating procedures.
  • Ability to react and adapt to change.
  • Ability to be innovative and recommend and implement alternatives.
Physical RequirementsOccasional transportation of packages up to 20 pounds.
