This position performs semi-skilled jobs in a variety of trade areas. The incumbent typically replaces parts, makes minor adjustments to machinery, and repairs buildings, equipment, and miscellaneous items. Work is done in accordance with established procedures, and frequent and detailed instructions are given on new or complex work.
This position will maintain and repair buildings and other structures for Metro District in a safe and efficient manner according to all building codes. Perform semi-skilled maintenance and repair work on heating and power equipment, boilers, engines, generators, pumps, compressors, heaters, and motors. Make minor repairs to plumbing, heating, cooling, and air conditioning equipment. Assist building trade’s personnel with various major building construction tasks. Assist with snow/ice removal, mowing and landscaping maintenance. Replace or repair locks and make keys.
The incumbent in this position is required to be immediately accessible to a phone and be able to report to work within one (1) hour of being called. Must travel daily to numerous and various MnDOT Metro District properties to perform job. Minimum QualificationsKnowledge of:
  • General methods and practices of a variety of trade areas (i.e., mechanics, masonry, welding, electrical, plumbing and carpentry) sufficient to assist licensed trades workers and to repair machinery, tools, and facilities in a timely and safe manner.
  • Occupational hazards and safety measures related to trades work sufficient to perform the job duties safely and efficiently.
Ability to:
  • Safely use hand and power hand tools.
  • Safely use, operate, and maintain trucks, tractors, and other ground and road maintenance equipment; provide work instructions to unskilled helpers.
  • Follow oral and written instructions.
  • Perform physically demanding tasks such as lifting, carrying, and bending.
Required:
  • Valid Class D Driver's License
Ability to obtain and maintain:
  • Specials Class Engineer's License.
  • DOLI Unlicensed Individual Electrical Work Registration within 6 months.
  • DOLI Unlicensed Individual Plumbing Work Registration within 6 months.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Carpentry skills/experience.
  • AAS Degree in Facilities System Technology or Heating, Ventilation, AC Technology with at least two (2) years of experience working in building maintenance or building trades.
  • Knowledge and application of work processing software.
  • Ability to collect, combine, organize, and accurately describe available information in the form of reports.
  • Ability to perform skilled work in a number of trade areas and to assist with more difficult work.
Physical RequirementsPre-Employment Physical Exam: A pre-placement physical examination is required for this position. Current employees who have successfully bid or are moving into a different functional work area will be required to complete the pre-employment physical exam for the area they are moving into. The scope of the physical exam will be limited to whether the employee can safely and effectively perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation, in compliance with state and federal law.
