Summary:

The Legal Affairs Coordinator will coordinate activities in the Legal Affairs area and work closely with the Associate Counsel, the Senior Vice President of Legal Affairs, and other staff as needed.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Answer and direct incoming Legal Hotline calls and emails to in-house counsel
  • Perform data entry and support functions for tracking Legal Hotline inquiries and Professional Standards cases
  • Assist with development and maintenance of a database of legal issues relevant to the Realtor® membership, including our internal and online information
  • Assist in preparation of detailed reports and memoranda for Legal Affairs and professional standards
  • Assist in preparation of annual changes to the Code of Ethics and Arbitration Manual, associated forms and memos, and other related materials
  • Assist in distribution of the annual Legal Hotline letter/information
  • Assist in implementation and tracking of Association contracts
  • Maintain and assist in implementation of the department’s annual committee application process
  • Assist in administration of the Forms and Risk Management Committees
  • Serve as staff back-up for Professional Standards Coordinator
  • Potential to serve as Ombudsman for the Association
  • Other duties as assigned

Skills Needed:

The candidate must possess high levels of written and verbal communication skills and must be very detailed and process oriented. This individual will need to be able to multi-task and must be a team player. A paralegal background or real estate experience would be very helpful. Candidates should understand legal concepts, terminology, principles and procedures.

Education and/or Experience:

Three (3) to five (5) year’s experience in a legal setting or a Business Associates degree.

Computer Skills:

The candidate must be proficient in Microsoft Office, Microsoft Outlook, Excel, Word, and other computer applications and membership databases.

Physical Demands of the Position:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, office machines, and controls and to hear and see. The employee is required to stand, walk and sit. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms, to stoop, crawl or crouch.

The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 15 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision (clear vision at 20 inches or less) and distance vision (clear vision at 20 feet or more).
