JOB SUMMARY

The Houseman sets up and breaks down tables, chairs, audio-visual (AV) equipment and platforms/stages and other equipment as specified by client or group requirements. This hands-on position arranges tables and chairs with the correct linen, skirting and table top items and cleans, stores and secures all tables, chairs and AV equipment, and platforms/stages for banquet functions.

JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Timely set up/break down of meeting and event rooms, daily. This may include clearing the room of all its furniture and resetting the room per the specifications outlined by the BEO (Banquet Event Order).
  • Sets up/breaks down, maintains and services banquet rooms – including but not limited to buffets, food stations, bars, dance floor, A/V equipment, lighting, etc.
  • Maintains the banquet storeroom in a neat and organized manner stocked with any and all appropriate supplies necessary for meetings or food service functions.
  • Maintains the highest standards of cleanliness and sanitation throughout the banquet function space, pre-function space and storage areas including the carpet, walls, walks and doors.
  • Responds quickly to requests from guests, or management in a timely, friendly and efficient manner.
  • Polishes glasses, silverware, china, and serving tools.
  • Breaks down after the completion of functions and ensures that all equipment and supplies are stored properly.
  • Refreshes meeting rooms as needed.
  • Notifies management of any hazards immediately.
  • Turns in found items for “Lost and Found” to the supervisor.
  • Assists servers in their set-up, service and clean-up tasks.
  • Cleans dining and banquet room areas.
  • Stocks servers’ station with supplies.
  • Collects trash from the banquet area following the conclusion of the function.
  • Dusts/cleans off chairs before and after every function.
  • Folds napkins and bread basket linens.
  • Cleans up spills, broken service ware and attends to similar problems during service.
  • Reports needed repairs to supervisor.
  • Provide a professional image at all times through appearance, grooming, and dress.
  • Attends selected meetings on request.
  • Attends pre-service training (pre-shift meetings).
  • Participates as a service team member with Banquet Servers & Banquet Bartenders on assigned events
  • Performs other appropriate duties as assigned by the Director of Catering, Clubhouse Manager, F&B Managers, Banquet Captain and other management team members.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

  • A genuine and enthusiastic personality with a passion for customer service.
  • Good communication skills using spoken and written words in a professional manner to members, guests and staff.
  • The desire to maintain high visibility among members and staff.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience in restaurant, hotel/resort or private club food and beverage operations preferred.
  • Positive attitude, passionate & highly motivated.
  • Ability to handle many tasks at once.
  • Ability to make decisions in a fast-paced environment with a keen eye for detail.
  • Must be able to handle stress in a healthy and professional manner.
  • Must be able to complete tasks in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Has the ability to learn new technologies as necessary.
  • Knowledge of and ability to perform required role during emergency situations.
  • Ability to keep information confidential and operate with honesty and integrity.

Physical Requirements

  • Required to work irregular and extended hours including weekends and holidays.
  • Remain standing and walking for several hours during a work shift.
  • Must be able to stand; walk; bend; stoop; kneel and use hands to finger, handle or feel.
  • Must be able to reach with hands and arms; talk and hear.
  • Must be able to occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Must be able to moderate noise levels in the work environment.
  • Must be able to handle hot and cold interior and outdoor conditions.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Must be able to see the computer screen, paperwork, etc.

Licenses and Special Requirements

  • Food Handler’s Certification.
  • Of legal age to serve alcoholic beverages.
  • Alcoholic beverage certification (TABC Certificate).
