OverviewNorth Pole Veterinary Hospital in North Pole, AK is seeking a full-time Veterinary Technician to join our Urgent Care team!
We are seeking night owls to join our overnight Emergency and Urgent Care team. Must be able to work weeknight overnights. Shifts will be between 8 and 10 hours in length and will start between 6pm and midnight. Applicants must have veterinary experience and understand the variability of Emergency and Urgent care shifts.
North Pole Veterinary Hospital is an 9-doctor practice and is proud to serve the community of North Pole and surrounding areas of Alaska. Our staff is comprised of highly trained, compassionate animal lovers who treat patients like their own pets.
We are dedicated to staying on the cutting edge of veterinary technology to ensure our patients have access to the best care available. We are proud to be an innovative hospital that provides extensive and comprehensive services to our clients, such as chemotherapy, advanced soft tissue procedures, orthopedic surgeries, and emergency surgeries. Our team provides care for dogs, cats, rabbits, guinea pigs, ferrets, and even some breeds of reptiles/exotics like bearded dragons.Compensation: $21-28/hr depending on experience
Location: 2942 Hurst Road, North Pole, AK 99705
Hours: Monday-Friday 8am-6pm, Saturdays 9am-5pm, Closed on Sundays

Job Summary: This position provides leadership and training to the medical support staff in the operation of a small animal facility in accordance with hospital policy and procedures and provides medical care to patients as allowed in the veterinary practice act. The Veterinary Technician will be able to communicate effectively with employees and clients and have great attention to detail and organizational abilities.

ResponsibilitiesHow you'll make an impact:
- Maintain and uphold Core Values and Mission Statement of MVP.
- Provide guidance to the support staff to assure that the shift flows well
- Provide input to the hospital manager for 360-degree employee performance evaluations.
- Provide patient care under the supervision and direction of a DVM.
- Maintain excellent client communication.
- Record all pertinent medical, client and case related information in the patient record accurately with appropriate grammar, terms, and accurate information.
- Review medical records, estimates or discharge instructions with clients.
- Answer client’s inquiries about basic animal care questions and routine procedures; handle client’s medical questions with confidence and direct to veterinarians when appropriate.
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Some veterinary industry experience required.
- Must be proficient in a variety of skills ranging from but not limited to laboratory, pharmacy, radiology, surgery, dental and nursing skills.
- Ability to demonstrate patience and composure in stressful situations, and ability to handle a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to stay calm and efficient during a medical crisis.
- Ability to give SQ, IM and IV injections.
- Knowledge of usage, dosage, and common side-effects for commonly used prescription drugs and ability to readily explain them to the clients.
