The Senior Project Accountant will play a critical role in overseeing the financial aspects of our projects. This role involves ensuring accurate project accounting, financial reporting, and compliance with company policies and regulatory requirements. The Senior Project Accountant will work closely with project managers, other finance and accounting team members, and other stakeholders to ensure the financial success and integrity of our projects.

Must be located in California and able to attend occasional meetings at one of our offices.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Project Financial Management:

• Develop and manage project budgets, forecasts, and financial plans
• Monitor project expenses, revenues, and profitability
• Ensure accurate and timely cost allocation to projects

Accounting and Reporting:

• Maintain comprehensive project accounting records and systems
• Prepare new project setups based on contractual obligations
• Data entry of new projects, amendments, and modifications
• Prepare and review monthly financial reporting
• Ensure accurate billing, invoicing, and revenue recognition for project accounting workload
• Manage project-related accounts receivable and payable

Collaboration and Communication:

• Work closely with project managers to provide financial insights and support project decision-making
• Communicate financial performance, risks, and opportunities to stakeholders
• Liaise with the finance team to ensure alignment with overall company financial goals

Compliance and Internal Controls:

• Ensure compliance with financial regulations, standards, and company policies
• Identify and mitigate financial risks associated with projects
• Implement and maintain strong internal controls to safeguard project finances

Process Improvement:

• Continuously evaluate and improve project accounting processes and systems
• Implement best practices in project financial management
• Provide training and support to project teams on financial procedures and policies

MINIMUM EDUCATION, LICENSURE, OR CERTIFICATION REQUIRED

• Bachelor’s degree in business, accounting, or related field
• Minimum of 10 years of experience in project accounting or financial management, with a focus in the Architectural, Engineering, and Construction industries

ADDITIONAL DESIRED SKILLS

• California Prevailing Wage experience
• Proficiency in accounting software and ERP systems (Deltek preferred)
• Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
