Assignment Start Date: 2/12/2024
13 weeks | Days| 8-hour shift | 40 hours with 36 hours guaranteed weekly The Estimated Weekly Total is based on working the listed hours per week and includes available stipend amounts. The Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating the nursing care of the patients assigned to him/her during a given period. The RN functions under minimal supervision and according to established policies, procedures, and professional nursing standards. The RN performs other assignments as required.

Responsibilities/Accountabilities
- Assures that the patient’s chart is complete and includes the history & physical, diagnostic data, and the consent form.
- Provide patient and family pre-operative education.
- Assists the anesthetist with positioning the patient for spinal and regional anesthesia.
- Provides for the safety of the patient by positioning to prevent injury, use of ground pad, padding of bony prominences, and positioning to prevent nerve damage or muscle strain.
- Preps the incision site according to established procedure.
- Counts sponges, needles, and instruments per policy and reports any discrepancies.
- Directs and assists with between-case clean-up and proceeds with preparation for the next case.

- Maintains patient safety in the recovery room (ie: patent airway, side rails up, the patient attended at all times).
- Initiates IV therapy, obtains patient’s consent on surgical consent, and performs other treatments necessary for the procedure.
- Follows established chemotherapy protocols for administration and handling of chemotherapeutic agents.
- Assists surgeon with retracting and suturing.
Licenses, Certifications, And/or Registration
- Current RN licensure in the state of Illinois.
- BLS and ACLS required within 6 months of employment
- PALS preferred
