The Role:

Moderna is seeking a curious, skilled and highly motivated Research Associate to join the Infectious Disease Research team at the Cambridge, MA site. In this role, the candidate will support research programs within bacteriology. They will participate in preclinical research, evaluating binding and functional activity of mRNA vaccines using multiple techniques including ELISA, CFU quantification, flow cytometry and microscopy. The successful candidate must be flexible and able to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment, collaborate extensively across multifunctional teams and effectively communicate data to key stakeholders.

Here's What You’ll Do:

• Learn and perform multiple biological techniques, including bacterial and mammalian cell culture, growth curves, ELISAs, colony forming unit (CFU) quantification, flow cytometry and microscopy.

• Assist with lab inventory and maintaining equipment.

• Contribute to development and qualification of binding and functional assay protocols as needed for priority bacterial programs.

• Participate in designing, conducting, analyzing experiments and interpreting study results.

• Summarize and present experimental data and results at team and program meetings.

• Maintain clear and thorough protocol and data records in an electronic notebook and team folders.

Here’s What You’ll Bring to the Table:

• BS in Microbiology, Biology or Biochemistry field.

• Experience with aseptic techniques, bacterial and mammalian cell cultures.

• Experience with immunoassays, such as Western blot, ELISA and/or Immunoprecipitation.

• Prior experience with flow cytometry and microscopy, a plus.

• Enthusiasm to learn and ability to multitask across research programs.

• Ability to learn quickly and collaborate in a fast-paced environment.

• Excellent written and oral communication.

• This position is site-based, requiring you to be at Moderna’s site full-time. This position is not eligible for remote work.
