GENERAL DEFINITION: This position involves the management of assigned child support cases within the Modoc Tribal Child Support program, with responsibility for activities associated with the establishment, enforcement, and/or modification of child support orders and obligations.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Work is performed under the general direction of the Child Support Service Director.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED: No supervision is performed unless at the discretion and/or under the direction of the Child Support Service Director.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES:
· Prepares Record of Payments.
· Calculating child support according to the approved guidelines.
· Performs other job-related duties as required and assigned.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: High volume workload with pressure situations. Lift equipment and packages up to 10 lbs. Some travel will be required to attend department and staff meetings and training conferences.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Successful candidate should posses the following: Knowledge of tribal, CFR, State and Federal laws applicable to the child support enforcement program. Sources used to locate individuals and assets. Candidate must know the legal criteria for establishing paternity and the paternity testing procedures. Knowledge of legal terminology as it relates to child support. Candidate must possess skills in English usage, grammar, and spelling. Effective skills and assertive interviewing techniques. Abilities: Read, understand, apply and explain Federal and tribal child support laws and regulations. Understand and explain program child support procedures. Research and extract factual information. Elicit information from hostile and or uncooperative individuals. Independently analyze situations and factual information and take effective action. Communicate with and explain technical information to individuals from a wide variety of educational and cultural backgrounds.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Requirement of a child support specialist, case management for a minimum of two years, or a completion of an associate degree in Legal Assistance or a closely related program of paralegal education.
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATES: Must have dependable transportation; possess a valid driver’s license and be insurable. Be willing to submit to a background investigation.
