Moffatt & Nichol specializes in large complex waterfront infrastructure projects and is recognized as one of the worldwide leaders in this field. We are seeking a Structural Engineer with complex bridge design and waterfront structure experience to join our Raleigh, NC team. The successful candidate will be able to develop the firm’s Raleigh office special structures design team to assist on projects throughout the footprint of the company. Projects to include bridge and other marine structure projects as it relates to complex design, alternative delivery, and vessel impact evaluation and design. Responsibilities include leading design effort, building and training staff, reviewing structure design plans, attending meetings and quality assurance reviews. Qualified candidates will have 20 years of experience working on complex structural projects that includes: design and preparation of construction drawings and contract documents. You will have strong communication skills and will be committed to assist with the leading of projects and teams. This individual must be self-directed, dedicated, and success focused.

Duties and responsibilities:

• Prepares design documents and reports for complex structural projects 
• Creates feasibility studies by analyzing engineering design, conducting environmental impact studies, and assembling data
• Plans, schedules work, and completes work assignments within established budget and timelines
• Performs calculations, cost estimates, prepares drawings, technical specifications, and writes reports 
• Leads, mentors and assists junior engineers and designers in developing final design plans
• Coordinates structural design staff along with other disciplines to meet project schedules and budgets 
• Performs quality assurance reviews and adheres to Moffatt & Nichol Quality Management System
• Perform limited field observations in support of construction and data collection
• Attend client meetings as necessary

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering
• Professional Engineer licensure in North Carolina or the ability to obtain via reciprocity within 6 months of hire 
• 20 years of complex structural design
• Experience effectively interacting with staff, vendors, clients and agencies
• Possession of or eligibility to obtain a Transportation Workers Identification Credential (TWIC)
• Proficiency with AutoCAD, MicroStation, various structural analysis software, Microsoft Word, and Excel required
• Academy of Coastal, Ocean, Port & Navigation Engineers (ACOPNE) certification in the Port Engineering category preferred
• All new hires will be required to successfully complete and pass a pre-employment (post offer) background check in compliance with NIST 800-171

Physical requirements:

The position requires long periods of computer work, interacting with others and potentially attending client meetings or conducting site visits. Site visits may require navigating unpaved terrain while carrying equipment.
