Moma is Hiring an Individual Philanthropy Officer Near New York, NY

The Museum of Modern Art is currently accepting applications for an Individual Philanthropy Officer who serves as a critical member of the Individual Philanthropy team and works with department staff to collaboratively manage and grow a substantial portfolio of donors capable of making significant gifts to support the Museum. Reporting to the Associate Director of Individual Philanthropy and working closely with other members of the Individual Philanthropy team, the successful candidate, as a donor-facing solicitor and strategic thought partner, will help increase unrestricted and restricted operating gifts from individuals. Additionally, they will maximize the joy and impact of giving to MoMA by managing the stewardship of major individual donors through correspondence, reports, events, personal interactions, and more. The Individual Philanthropy Officer will support the Associate Director in all Planned Giving stewardship activities and carry a portfolio of donors in this area.
Additional responsibilities include:
  • In collaboration with the Associate Director, is responsible for meeting fundraising goals and supporting the implementation of the solicitation strategy for individual donors.
  • Develops, manages, and implements a fundraising and stewardship strategy for individual donors making unrestricted, restricted, and planned gifts of $10,000 or more.
  • Works closely with colleagues to proactively initiate donor stewardship and recognition (renewals, acknowledgements, calls, press releases, etc.).
  • Oversees reporting to Individual Philanthropy donors, including producing a twice annual report on the Museum's activities and other special reports as they arise.
  • Collaborates on the production and communication of regular donor events to create meaningful interactions with MoMA's mission, collections, exhibitions, and staff.
  • In coordination with the team, ensures that fresh, donor-centric content is reflected in all gift-acknowledgements, that gifts are processed and acknowledged in a timely fashion, and that MoMA's annual listing of donors is comprehensive and correct.
  • Develops and maintains a donor communications calendar and ensures that all content produced by the department is updated regularly for timely, relevant content.
  • Works with the Research team to develop strategies to identify, qualify, and solicit prospects.
  • Supports the management of the Modern Circle, MoMA's society for donors who have named the Museum in their estate plans.
  • Stewards a portfolio of planned giving prospects and Modern Circle members.
  • Liaises with the General Counsel's office to track the receipt and execution of individual documentation of all forms of planned gifts, and with MoMA's curatorial teams on gifts of art.
  • Develops strategies and executes marketing plans to promote planned giving among MoMA's constituencies.
  • Supports and attends related donor programs and events as needed.
  • Works collaboratively and cross-departmentally to achieve the Museum's fundraising priorities.
  • Performs any other duties reasonably related to the functions described above.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree and at least four years of progressively responsible frontline fundraising experience.
  • Demonstrated success soliciting gifts in excess of $10,000.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work in a collaborative setting that involves shared decision-making, transparency, and responsibility.
  • Ability to work independently, manage multiple tasks, and balance priorities with significant attention to detail.
  • Energetic self-starter with a positive attitude, empathetic disposition, and willingness to be flexible and adaptable. Must display superior judgment and adhere to the highest ethical standards.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office and Salesforce or equivalent CRM software is preferred.
  • Knowledge of modern and contemporary art is desirable.
  • Familiarity with planned giving vehicles and basic estate and financial planning is desirable.
  • Must be able to work some evenings and weekends with prior notice.
Reports to : Associate Director of Individual Philanthropy
Salary range: Minimum of $65,000 to maximum of $72,000 per annum
