Operating Room Registered Nurse (RN)
Overview: We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Registered Nurse (RN) to join our team in Surgical Services. As an RN in the OR you will play a crucial role in providing safe and effective patient care before, during and after surgical procedures. You will collaborate with surgeons, CRNA, and other healthcare professionals to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
Responsibilities:
1. Preoperative Assessment: Conduct comprehensive assessment of patients prior to surgery, including reviewing medical histories, conducting physical exams, and verifying consent forms.
2. Surgical Preparation: Assist in preparing patients for surgery by providing preoperative education, ensuring proper positioning, and verifying surgical site markings.
3. Intraoperative Support: Provide skilled nursing care during surgical procedures, including monitoring vital signs, assisting CRNA duties and maintaining a sterile environment.
4. Surgical Assistance: Collaborate with the surgical team to anticipate needs and aid as required.
5. Patient Advocacy: Advocate for patient safety and comfort throughout the perioperative process, including addressing concerns, providing emotional support and promoting effective communication.
6. Postoperative Care: Monitor patients during the immediate postoperative period, assessing for complications, managing pain, and facilitating recovery.
7. Documentation and Communication: Accurately document patient assessments, interventions and outcomes in electronic health records and communicate pertinent information to the healthcare team.
8. Quality Improvement- participate in quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient care process, reduce surgical risks, and improve outcomes.
9. Professional Development- stay abreast of current evidence-based practices, attend continuing education opportunities, and maintain professional certifications and licensure.
10. Call responsibilities as required by the department needs
Qualifications
1. Graduate of an accredited school of nursing
2. Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in West Virginia
3. BLS required within orientation periods
4. ACLS and PALS required within first year.
5. Prior experience in perioperative nursing or surgical services preferred. New graduates may be considered
6. Proficient clinical assessment skills, critical thinking abilities and strong communication skills. Ability to prioritize, work effectively under pressure and collaborate with multidisciplinary team.
