The available position will work Monday-Friday and will be on call on designated weekends and holidays. Applicants must be 18 years of age and have a current drivers license. Job responsibilities will include but not limited to: picking up stray dogs that may weigh over 100 lbs., perform custodial tasks involving physical labor and use of equipment, administer medication to animals, handle money for impounds, maintain data for all dog bite reports, quarantine orders and rabies reports, follow and implement county/city ordinances and state laws, issue warnings and citations for violations of local and state laws, appear and testify in Magistrate and Circuit court, prepare written reports for presentation of evidence in court, investigate and collect evidence pertaining to animal abuse and neglect and work with all Law Enforcement Agencies in the County. Applicant must be comfortable speaking to people, learning and memorizing legislation, potentially facing confrontation with the ability to de-escalate conflict and aggressive situations.
Dog Wardens work closely with people and dogs and must prevent dogs from harming people, while also keeping dogs safe from harm.
