Montana Natural History Center is Hiring a Marketing and Events Coordinator Near Missoula, MT

Position Title: Marketing and Events Coordinator

Position Category: 40 hours/week, Non-Exempt

Start Date: July 15, 2024 (or sooner per successful applicant’s availability)

Salary: $18.00-$21.00/hour, DOE

MNHC’s mission is to promote and cultivate the appreciation, understanding, and stewardship of nature through education. To achieve this, MNHC offers a wide range of programming for children and adults in Missoula and western Montana:

  • Visiting Naturalists deliver an innovative, engaging curriculum for 4th-5th graders in the classroom and in local natural areas throughout the school year. 
  • We are the state provider for the Montana Master Naturalist program, delivering courses in Montana ecology, flora, and fauna throughout the year.
  • Our museum exhibits highlight Montana’s biodiversity, landscapes, fossils, geology, and more, and our native plant gardens offer places to relax, play, and learn.
  • We run exciting science and nature-based summer camp programs for youth in grades PreK-8.
  • Our naturalists teach adult classes on nature writing and natural history topics and lead guided walks and field experiences in the outdoors.
  • We publish Montana Naturalist magazine and partner with Montana Public Radio to produce the Field Notes radio program.

  1. Scope of Position:

The Marketing and Events Coordinator will work directly with the Development Director to oversee the development and delivery of the integrated marketing strategy for the Montana Natural History Center (MNHC). Marketing efforts include online and printed materials, social media, annual giving campaigns, program and fundraising promotion, and membership efforts. This position also coordinates fundraising events, such as MNHC’s Annual Banquet & Auction and Spring Luncheon, and assists with corporate donor recognition and other fundraising efforts.

  1. Specific Responsibilities:

Marketing

  • Develop, manage, and implement MNHC’s marketing, events, and editorial calendars with input from Executive Director, Development Director, and Education Director
  • Work with the Communications Coordinator to coordinate layout, design, and brand message of all MNHC marketing materials and communications
  • Perform the day-to-day marketing activities for events, programs, and development
  • Coordinate marketing communications, such as flyers, brochures, and exhibit-related projects
  • Manage monthly report key performance indicators and other marketing analytics
  • Work with the Development Director and Executive Director to set and meet annual membership goals and enhance membership value, and benefits, and renewals of memberships
  • Manage and grow social media presence 
  • Manage the creation, design, and implementation of Annual Report
  • Create and distribute email newsletters
  • Manage merchandise design, acquisition, inventory, and promotion

Events

  • Lead the planning of MNHC’s annual Auction, Luncheon, and all other fundraising events
  • Coordinate and represent the organization at outreach opportunities, such as booth and tabling opportunities at community events
  • Update website content and events calendar
  • Manage online registration system for events, fundraisers, and programs 
  1. Minimum Qualifications & Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
  • Experience in non-profit fundraising, marketing, and event planning 
  • Exceptional oral and written communication and organizational skills
  • Social media marketing expertise
  • Preferred computer skills: donor database, Constant Contact, WordPress (or other website Content Management System), Google Suite, Adobe Creative Suite
  • Preferred design experience: Canva
  • Valid driver’s license, clean driving record, and willing to use personal transportation (will be reimbursed for mileage)

The Marketing and Events Coordinator reports to the Development Director.
