Montana State University is Hiring a McNair Scholars Program Coordinator Near Bozeman, MT

The McNair Program provides services and activities for first generation, low-income, and underrepresented students from all disciplines in preparation for success in graduate school. The program facilitates high-quality research opportunities and offers specialized programming to prepare eligible students for enrollment in graduate studies and attainment of master’s and doctoral degrees.
Duties and Responsibilities
Duties of the Position
Administrative Duties
  • Be knowledgeable of grant programs’ goals, policies, and objectives.
  • Assist with streamlining record keeping processes as related to program objectives and maintaining adequate records for each scholar.
  • File and organize the data required for reporting.
  • Provide objective assessment data to Director and USDE for reporting (e.g., annual report).
  • Effectively catalog travel requests, faculty mentor agreements, research supplies, and other program documentation.
  • Assist with budgetary reports and program financial management (e.g., p-card reconciliation).
Student Engagement Activities
  • Participate in regular coaching meetings with scholars.
  • Assist with identifying and recruiting prospective McNair Scholars.
  • Review Program applicants and actively participate in the interview/selection process.
  • Assist with planning the Spring McNair Banquet, Undergraduate Research Symposium, Summer Institute, Fall McNair Seminar (course), Winter Research Celebration, and any other McNair Scholar-specific special activities.
  • Participate in (attend) national and regional conferences as needed (~once/academic year)
  • Participate in graduate school visits with Scholars and/or administrative trips to other universities (typically associated with conference participation).
  • Promote good will and quality customer service to students.
Collaboration
  • Collaborate with McNair Program Director to establish annual budget, grant accounting, and other program expenditures.
  • Partner with Student Activities, MSU Library, Residence Life, TRIO Student Success Services, the Writing Center, Math Tutoring Center, Veterans Services, Disability Services, AYCSS, and other services to support Scholars.
  • Collaborate with Empower, TRIO Student Success Services, University Studies, American Indian Council, First Generation Club, AYCSS, and other groups to identify, recruit, and services students.
  • Work alongside the Undergraduate Scholars Program, MSU Graduate School, and Office of Research and Development to identify and consolidate program resources.
Leadership
  • Adhere to Federal and Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) guidelines.
  • Demonstrate ethical, moral, and professional behavior in the office environment.
  • Maintain cordial and professional attitude within office, university, and community.
  • Exercise knowledge of higher education practices and student success initiatives.
  • Demonstrate ability to be a team player with willingness to take initiative.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills
  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Experience working in higher education settings.
  • Experience with project programming.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills.
Preferred Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills
  • Experience working with low-income, first-generation, and/or underrepresented students.
  • Experience promoting college opportunity programs.
  • Experience with academic advising or counseling undergraduate students.
  • Experience advising and assisting students with applying to graduate school and acquiring financial aid.
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.
  • Experience planning workshops and student activities.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
