Montefiore Medical Center's Division of Clinical Pathology is responsible for the laboratory testing of blood, urine, and body fluids for disease diagnosis and health maintenance. Utilizing the latest advances in computer technology, the Division maintains millions of dollars of state-of-the-art automated equipment at its laboratory sites and services hospitals, nursing homes, the Montefiore Medical Group, faculty practices, and voluntary physicians' offices at more than 40 sites.
The Laboratory Manager is accountable for managing the administrative, technical, and fiscal areas of responsibility for Montefiore Medical Center’s 3 Blood Bank campuses – Moses, Einstein, and Wakefield.
Responsibilities

• Responsible for overall operation of the Blood Bank laboratory of 3 campuses
• Manage staff of 53, including all shift supervisors. Perform supervisory performance evaluations; oversee employee evaluations
• Assist in the development of competency assessment process. Responsible for execution of competency assessment program
• Responsible for the selection, implementation, and maintenance of instrumentation
• Prepare and manage annual budget of approximately $20M; perform variance analysis, develop business cases, and seek cost reduction opportunities
• Enforce and ensure compliance with NYS, AABB, FDA and CAP standards and regulations
• Collaborate with other disciplines in reference to compliance, blood utilization, conservation and use of information technology e.g., Epic Blood Administration Module
• Assist in the development and review of technical policies and procedures
• Interview new employees. Provide oversight of training of new employees
• Author and implement revised competency program that encompasses all the required elements of both NYS and CAP standards
• Payroll and Human Capital Management

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree Medical Technology or Physical science required, Master’s Degree preferred
• Must have at least 7 years of experience
• New York State Clinical Lab Technologist license required
• Healthcare software-Blood Bank, Lab and Hospital Information System, Blood Bank instrumentations and equipment required
• Knowledge of procedures for performing tests -- ABO/Rh, phenotyping, DAT
• Understanding of the principle and limitations of high complexity tests procedures -- Antibody ID, compatibility tests, absorption/elution

This position is located in the Blood Bank campuses at Montefiore at Moses, Einstein, and Wakefield. The hours are 8:30am – 5:00 pm Monday – Friday.
