Visit us at www.Amycel.com. Why Join Our Organization? We are seeking a highly motivated and innovative Mushroom Development Specialist to join our diverse R&D team.

This position will assist with the development and maintenance of our commercial lines of Agaricus bisporus (Button Mushroom) and assist with our new strain development pipeline.

Additionally, this position will assist in the development of a genomic pipeline to investigate commercial lines stability and consistency at all levels of our production process.

A background and interest in molecular biology and genomics will be vital to this position. Our research scope integrates classical breeding, molecular biology, genetics, and bioinformatics to develop novel mushroom varieties with improved commercial performance.

The overall goal of the position is to assist in the development of superior varieties of Agaricus bisporus the cultivated mushroom. What Do We Expect?

  • Assist with the development of commercial lines, screening of commercial lines, production of commercial inoculum for lines.
  • Protoplasting of mushroom lines, DNA extraction for WGS
  • Assist with analysis and comparisons of sequence data and contribute to the development of pipeline to investigate commercial line consistency and stability.
  • Assist with breeding novel varieties with improved traits.
  • Coordinate commercial testing of new lines and strains.
  • Perform all necessary activities related to the design, execution, and troubleshooting of experiments.
  • Marker development, genotyping of breeding lines and parents, and population screening.
  • Involvement in all aspects of the new strain development pipeline : setting up crosses, processing crosses, and genotyping crosses.
  • Keep detailed records and provide data in a timely manner.
  • Assist with laboratory management and coordinating the activities of the strain development team.
  • Involvement in other projects as needed.

What are we looking for?

  • BS Molecular Biology, Plant Breeding, Biology, or related field with an interest background in genetics, genomics, and molecular biology
  • Minimum of 2 years of laboratory experience and hands on experience with tissue culture and DNA extraction.
  • Ability and interest to work in the field to assess and confirm commercial potential of commercial mushroom lines.
  • Practical experience using the principles of plant breeding, selection, genetic diversity management, and quantitative genetics.
  • Experience with molecular genetics, genotyping systems, sequence-based genotyping, sequencing, as well as other genomics tools and approaches.
  • Experience in using statistical software for data analysis and visualization of large data sets (e.g., R, Python).
  • Must be well organized, able to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing, and possess attention to detail and follow-through.
  • Experience in SOP development and documentation.
  • Excellent organization and communication skills and the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Interest or experience working with mushrooms / fungi in a commercial or laboratory setting.
  • Background in fungi, interest in fungi / mushrooms, experience in mushroom breeding.
  • 2 plus years of laboratory experience and hands on experience with tissue culture and DNA extraction is an advantage.
  • MS in Molecular Biology, Plant Breeding, Biology, or related field with an interest background in genetics, genomics, and molecular biology is a plus.
