About the Position:

This position is located in the Department’s Public Health Division’s HIV/STD Services. The Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STD) Services include screening, diagnosis and treatment of STDs, HIV Rapid Testing and linkage to care, and Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP) and other prevention interventions. Partner Services is conducted for reportable STDs where contacts of infected patients are confidentially notified and referred for testing and treatment as needed. HIV Services include the Ryan White HIV Clinic for medical care and treatment for people living with HIV, medical case management and client centered support services, oral health services, medical nutrition therapy, mental health and substance abuse counseling, housing services and Housing Opportunities for People with AIDS Program. Medical Nutrition Therapy in the care of HIV/AIDS is recognized as supportive adjunctive therapy essential to improving the optimal medical management of HIV disease. It is well documented that nutritional interventions, including nutrition assessments, counseling, therapy, and access to food can have a positive impact on morbidity, mortality, and quality of life in people living with HIV.

The Nutritionist is responsible for:

  • Management and implementation of Medical Nutrition Therapy services to Ryan White eligible persons living with HIV
  • Provision of direct nutrition counseling services including nutrition assessment, development of care plan, counseling and education to patients followed in the HIV Clinic, and clients referred by HIV Client Services and community providers
  • Adherence to Medical Nutrition Therapy Standards of Practice of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics and Ryan White HIV/AIDS Program Service Standards
  • Collaboration with medical and client services staff on nutritional needs of patients
  • Participation in bi-monthly team meetings for continuity of patient care and program quality
  • Management of ordering and distribution of nutrition supplements
  • Oversight and management of Ryan White funded grocery gift cards

Minimum Qualifications


Experience:
Three (3) years of professional experience in the field of nutrition.

Education: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's Degree in Nutrition or Dietetics.

Equivalency: An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted.

LICENSE:

  • Possession of a valid license to practice dietetics issued by the Maryland State Board of Dietetic Practice. Possession of the nationally recognized Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) or Certification for Nutrition Specialist (CNS) will be accepted in lieu of the Maryland State Dietetic License for applicants applying for a Nutritionist position with the County; however, possession of the Maryland State Dietetic License is mandatory at time of appointment.
  • Possession and maintenance of a valid Class C (or equivalent) driver’s license from the applicant’s state of residence when required for job-related duties.

Interview Preference will be given to candidates with the following experience.

  • Two or more years’ clinical and/or community experience as a Dietitian/Nutritionist.
  • Two or more years of clinical and or community experience providing nutrition services to patients with chronic conditions such as HIV, obesity, diabetes and cardiovascular disease.
  • Multilingual English/Spanish - oral communication, reading comprehension, and interpreting skills
