TITLE: TB Medical Assistant DEPARTMENT: Public Health FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt REPORTS TO: TB RN Case Manager SummaryUnder the supervision of the TB RN Case Manager or designee, the TB Medical Assistant is responsible for providing health care services to TB program patients, performing administrative support duties and adapting role and tasks to maximize clinic efficiency. Duties will include, but are not limited to blood draws, specimen collection, contact investigations, coordinating outpatient testing, and varied clerical duties. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Include The Following
Responsible for ensuring TB services provided are consistent with TB Standing Delegation Orders, policies and procedures.
Facilitate efficient clinic flow by monitoring clinic schedule, rooming TB patients, and supporting the TB nurse with patient care.
Conduct client interviews to collect and accurately document relevant medical and social history in the patient care record.
Obtains and documents patient vital signs and weight.
Maintains TB patient care records by accurately filing test results and other paperwork as required.
Collaborates with TB RN to follow-up on referrals, abnormal lab and test results.
Assists with quality improvement and quality assurance activities related to the TB program.
Collects blood samples, natural sputum or induced sputum specimens, performs pregnancy tests, and follows the procedures for labeling and storing specimen as recommended by policy and procedure guidelines.
Works closely with department and regional staff to assist in administering contact exams on close and household contacts as needed.
Supports clerical staff in TB patient scheduling, registering, checking in and checking out.
Prepares patient exam rooms pre and post appointment.
Oversee the monitoring and restocking of TB clinical and lab supplies.
Cleans and maintains clinic equipment and disposes of used supplies carefully and correctly.
Use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) including proper personal protective equipment, to include, fit tested, N95 masks.
Graduate from an accredited school of Medical Assistants and have current certification.
Current BLS/CPR certification.
Recent experience in a medical clinic preferred.
Bilingual (English/Spanish) with strong communication skills preferred.

Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
Ability to follow safety rules on the job and use of protective personal equipment.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Current Texas Driver’s License required.
Remain insurable by the current insurance vendor of MCHD.
Required NIMS Training as referenced in the Safety & Emergency Management Policy SEM 27-201.
