The Montgomery County School Board, Virginia, is accepting applications for a Montgomery County Corps of Cadets instructor position that is available for the 2024-2025 school year at Christiansburg High School.
Job Summary
The teacher is responsible for instructing secondary school students in the Montgomery County Corps of Cadets civilian leadership program. The program incorporates lessons in leadership, service, physical fitness, drills, ceremonies, and self-discipline. The Montgomery County Corps of Cadets program will feature a drill team, color guard, and marksmanship teams and will develop the knowledge, skills, and talents of students utilizing a variety of instructional techniques.
Qualifications
Hold or be eligible for a Virginia Teacher’s License (please contact the Human Resources office)
Minimum of four years of service in a branch of the military having achieved a minimum rank of NCO with an honorable discharge
Have strong written, verbal, presentation, and interpersonal skills
Demonstrate the ability to work effectively with students and parents
Ability to be dependable and punctual
Preferred Qualifications:
Hold or be eligible to hold a VA teaching license
Bachelor’s degree
Supervisory experience
Experience working with high school students and have an understanding of the physical, intellectual, social, and emotional growth patterns of high school students
Experience teaching drill and marksmanship
Essential Duties:
Instructs secondary school students in developing knowledge and skills in military science
Develops short and long range plans for achieving curriculum goals, gathers appropriate materials, establishes clear objectives for lessons, and formulates appropriate lesson plans
Utilizes appropriate curriculum and complies with all state and local district safety guidelines
Provides individual and small group instruction and adapts the curriculum to the needs of students with varying abilities
Organizes, supervises and participates in extracurricular activities for cadets to include color guard, drill teams and other special activities
Establishes and maintains standards of pupil behavior and creates a safe, orderly, and effective environment
Instructs students in the proper care and use of equipment
Organizes storage areas and controls the use of materials and equipment to prevent loss, abuse, injury, or security breach to include a workable inventory of all equipment related to the program
Evaluates student performance and growth in knowledge and understandings and prepares regular progress reports
Conferences regularly with parents/guardians regarding behavior observations and the performance of students
Identifies student needs and cooperates with other professional staff members in helping students solve health, attitude, and learning problems
Maintains thorough records for each student
Models non-discriminatory practices in all activities
Keeps abreast of developments, research, and new technology in the field of military science
Other Duties:
Attends staff development programs, curriculum development meetings, and other professional activities
Performs any other related duties as assigned by the Principal and Director of Career & Technical Education or other appropriate administrator.
Salary: 2024-2025 Teachers’ salary scale with benefits
FLSA: Exempt
