Moon Juice Product Innovation Specialist

Santa Monica, CA / Full Time / Hybrid

As the Product Innovation Specialist at Moon Juice, you will be responsible for bringing the Founder’s product visions to life through the end-to-end project management of supplement and skincare formula development. The ability to multi-task and prioritize these projects will be important to the success of this role. Strong listening skills, hyper-attention to detail, and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment is required.

The ideal candidate could either be a brand manager who loves to nerd out on the science OR a scientist with a strategic marketing mindset. What they share is the ability to understand how the tiniest detail connects to the bigger picture. Whether marketer or mad scientist, you are extremely hard working, results-driven, analytical, and take pride in your work.

This role reports to the Director of Sourcing and Product Development and requires in-office collaboration 2 days per week in Santa Monica, CA.

Key Responsibilities

Work closely with company founder on all aspects of product formulation:

  • Research and source ingredients and compare against key evaluation criteria
  • Determine cost targets
  • Maintain meticulous formula cards and record-keeping of formula variants
  • Communicate sampling needs and revisions to labs and manage timely turnarounds
  • Oversee sample shipping and tracking amongst all stakeholders
  • Manage the sample approval process and organize sample retains
  • Take copious notes during NPD sessions and translate them into organized directives for teammates and external development partners
  • Partner with Marketing to complete product development briefs

Project manage milestones across all PD stage-gates with cross functional stakeholders:

  • Set and adhere to development deadlines and prioritize projects accordingly
  • Utilize Asana to track and provide visibility to key deliverables
  • Partner with Director of Sourcing & PD to co-lead cross-functional NPD meetings

Ensure products adhere to quality and regulatory guidelines:

  • Gather and organize records for lab testing, finished product specs, responsible sourcing, and relevant quality and safety certifications
  • Own the stability testing process
  • Gather, organize, and present literature for claims substantiation
  • Oversee user-testing and product feedback collection

Align ingredient and product research with brand mission and vision:

  • Ensure all ingredients and formulations adhere to strict brand guidelines
  • Understand and communicate ingredient and product benefits of existing and new products to cross-functional teammates
  • Maintain a knowledge of trends in ingredients, technologies, and delivery systems

Core Skills and Qualifications

  • Higher education in one of: Marketing, Clinical Nutrition, Naturopathy, Herbalism, Integrative Health, or related degrees
  • 4 years of professional experience in brand management or product development preferably in Vitamins/Minerals/Supplements or Personal Care
  • Proficiency with Excel and project management software such as Asana
  • Project management

  • Ability to navigate ambiguity
  • Understanding of quality and safety certifications and corresponding formulation requirements
  • Knowledge of PD stage gates, supply chain processes, and regulatory requirements

  • Able to manage competing priorities with thoroughness
  • Passionate about natural wellness and sustainability
