More Than Words is Hiring a Volunteer & Development Coordinator - Waltham (Open to MTW Alumni Only) Near Waltham, MA

The Volunteer and Development Coordinator is a focused, passionate, and detail-oriented team member who will support the Advancement Department to manage the Waltham volunteer program, process gifts, and communicate about the More Than Words mission with supporters. The Volunteer and Development Coordinator reports to the Associate Director of Development and supports the cultivation of new and existing supporters through volunteering, donation acknowledgments, and relationship building.

More Than Words (MTW) is a nonprofit social enterprise that empowers youth, ages 16-24, who are in the foster care system, court involved, homeless, or out of school to take charge of their lives by taking charge of a business. MTW offers job training opportunities and transition support services to equip youth with first-hand experience working as a team to operate retail and online businesses and to develop the tools to enable them to make progress around education, employment and life goals. 

Key responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

Volunteer Program Management:

  • Respond to individual and group volunteering inquiries to support our Waltham site.
  • Managing the volunteer program including - training individual volunteers, scheduling individual and group volunteers, and coordinating group volunteer events with the Waltham operations team.
  • Engage volunteers through regular communication, volunteer appreciation events, social media recognition, and volunteer feedback.
  • Represent MTW at applicable community events and volunteer fairs, as a tool to meet and engage with community members who are potential fits for various volunteer activities.
  • Communicate with Waltham operations team to check in on volunteering needs regularly

Gift Processing and Donor Cultivation:

  • Record gifts and activities into the Salesforce database, including entering online donations.
  • Provide follow-up and tax information for donors, including correct and timely preparation of acknowledgement letters and tax receipts.
  • Manage systems to thank donors for their gifts, including writing or coordinating others to write and send thank you notes and emails.
  • Join meetings with donors and prospects, and participate in presentations, to talk about More Than Words overall and from the perspective of an alumni.
  • Train youth to give tours to visitors and help youth get ready for presentations and events.

Outline of the Position:

  • This position offers $22.00 per hour with a maximum of 29 hours per week
  • Occasional evening or weekend hours may be scheduled in advance on mutual agreement for events or presentations
  • The Volunteer and Development Coordinator will report directly to the Associate Director of Development and receive support and coaching from the whole team
  • This is a 6-month position, with the potential to renew after evaluating at the end of the 6-month period.

Position Requirements:

  • You must have a GED or High School Diploma
  • You must be consistently moving towards educational outcomes
  • You must have transitioned from MTW at least 2 years prior to apply
  • You must be at least 21 years of age
  • You must be able to follow through on commitments
  • Covid-19 vaccination and booster

An ideal candidate will also:

  • Be passionate about the MTW mission 
  • Have a learning mindset and want to learn a lot of new technical skills
  • Love to be organized
  • Enjoy communicating both by writing and speaking
  • Prior experience with data-entry, office work, financial systems, or data analysis is a plus but certainly not required!
