Morehouse School Of Medicine is Hiring an Animal Care Technician I Near Atlanta, GA

This is a part-time (20 hours or less) student position. The cage wash technician prepares caging to be used for housing research animals, which includes scraping, soaking, washing dirty equipment, stocking /storing and prepping clean equipment for the facility's daily needs. Will perform start up and shut down procedures of cage washing /sterilization equipment. Will monitor cage wash machines for malfunctions and report any problems to the supervisor. Also perform regular schedule preventative maintenance on cage washing machines. The cage wash technician may also provide some general custodial care for various areas of the animal facility including but not limited to cleaning and sanitizing animal, procedure, surgery, necropsy and storage rooms and daily trash removal. Will also assist animal care staff and perform other related duties as assigned.

POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

* Cleaning and sterilizing cages, equipment, supplies and rooms including primary and secondary enclosures.

* Maintaining efficient organization and flow of equipment in cage wash area.

* Ensure that clean equipment has been processed correctly and shows no sign of residual waste.

* Preparing clean cages for use in animal rooms.

* Performs preventive maintenance tasks on all equipment maintained within or processed through the cage wash.

* Monitoring and maintaining washers and sterilizers in proper working conditions.

* Documenting and reporting equipment malfunctions

* Maintaining proper record keeping of washer and sterilizer assurance testing report all failures.

* Perform housekeeping duties in general areas as requested by supervisor.

* Preparing refuse for disposal or incineration.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES:

* Ability to perform duties related to the care and sanitation of laboratory animals and equipment according to instructions and established guidelines.

* Ability to work with individuals at all levels.

* Ability to lift 50lbs.

Minimum Qualifications

* High School Diploma or equivalent required.

* Must have a valid Georgia Driver's License.

* Must be enrolled at a regionally accredited college or university.
