Morenci Area Schools is looking for an Athletic Director who is enthusiastic, engaged, innovative, and committed.

We’re looking for a leader who will work cooperatively with students, parents, and staff across the community to advance our athletic programs, recruit and retain exceptional coaches, and promote the academic achievement and physical well-being of students.

The Athletic Director will be an experienced leader who will provide strategic vision, leadership, and financial and administrative oversight to the 6-12 athletic programs for all students at Morenci Area Schools.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in a related field is preferred
• Five years of coaching experience or collegiate experience
• Two-plus years of teaching or school-related experience
• Knowledge and proficiency in budget and fiscal responsibility

• Demonstrated mental ability, physical ability, and stamina to meet the requirements of this position
• CPR/AED & First Aid certification
• Any equivalent combination of training, education, or experience that meets the minimum requirements

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Must have regular, reliable, and punctual attendance
• Provide the support and mentoring necessary to attract, develop, and retain successful personnel
• Actively strive for academic and athletic excellence and promote student-athletes personal development, high academic achievement, and full participation in all aspects of school life
• Provide leadership that adheres to the highest standards of integrity in academics and athletics, as well as MHSAA rules and regulations
• Schedule all athletic contests, arrange for athletic transportation, and coordinate management for all home games
• Plan and collaborate with building administration and maintenance department
• Sustain a culture of sportsmanship, professionalism, and respect at all levels
• Organize interviews and make recommendations regarding the selection of coaching staffs and evaluate all coaching staff
• Foster good school-community relations by keeping the community aware of and responsive to the athletic program
• Ensure compliance including necessary paperwork and disseminate knowledge of Michigan High School Athletic Association rules and regulations
• Plan, assign, and direct work of athletic department staff
• Address complaints and resolve problems
• Oversee the Athletic Department budget
• Oversee club sports including scheduling and transportation
• Nominate students for appropriate athletic awards and arrange all local, league, team, & state certificates, plaques, patches, etc
• Attend regular local and state Athletic Director meetings
• Maintain a positive working relationship with Athletic Boosters and attend monthly meetings

Language Skills

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports or professional correspondence. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from students, staff, administrators and general public

Mathematical Skills

Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as statistical inference, fractions, percentages, rations and practical applications.

Physical Demands

Frequently required to stand and talk or hear while sometimes walking and sitting. The employee may occasionally push or lift up to 40 pounds. Frequent bending, stooping, or getting up and down from the floor are also required. This role requires working in dynamic and energetic settings, often involving large crowds in loud athletic environments. The ideal candidate will thrive in bustling atmospheres, maintaining a positive and professional demeanor while effectively managing interactions with spectators and participants. Your ability to stay calm and focused amid high noise levels and active surroundings is essential for ensuring a seamless and enjoyable experience for all attendees.
