Morgan is Hiring an Associate Vice President for Morgan State University Foundation Operations Near Cold Spring, MD

Reporting to and partnering with the Vice President for Institutional Advancement and Executive Director of the Morgan State University Foundation, the Associate Vice President (AVP) for Morgan State University Foundation Operations will collaborate closely with the president, executive director, senior leaders, and board members to ensure the fiscal integrity, sustainability, and mission alignment of the foundation. The AVP will provide strategic financial direction and oversight to support the organization’s mission and goals.The CFO will be a strategic leader with exceptional interpersonal and customer service skills who works with the senior leadership team to optimize revenue for the Foundation, ensuring sustainable growth and establishing, maintaining, and overseeing the institutional investment strategy. The AVP will evaluate and assist in budgeting, financial monitoring, planning, and analysis of the Foundation.They will oversee accounting, finance, investments, and real estate. Within this financially complex organization, the AVP will provide a breadth of expertise, supervision, and guidance in the areas of fund accounting, financial reporting and analysis, audit oversight and management, policy development, internal controls, general accounting, budgeting, and forecasting, real estate holdings and management, and financial investment management and accounting. The AVP will also serve as an important partner to campus colleagues regarding the management of gift funds.Key Responsibilities:The following responsibilities are essential for the successful candidate which include:· Demonstrated expertise in Financial Management Policies and Procedures:- Develop and implement financial policies, procedures, and internal controls to safeguard foundation assets and ensure compliance with legal and regulatory requirements.- Prepare and present financial reports, budgets, and forecasts to the President/CEO, Executive Director, board of directors, and key stakeholders.- As appropriate, work with other advancement team members to ensure consistency in financial reporting and budgets.- Oversee accounting functions, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and general ledger maintenance.· Demonstrated expertise in Investment Oversight:- Review existing investment policies to develop, recommend, and implement the most appropriate investment policies, asset allocation strategies, and risk management frameworks in collaboration with the investment committee and external advisors.- Monitor investment portfolios, cash flow projections, and liquidity needs as well as evaluate investment managers to assess performance relative to benchmarks and investment objectives.- Monitor and track endowment performance as well as oversee reporting requirements.· Demonstrated expertise in Funding Administration:- Oversee funding processes, including grant application review, due diligence, approval, and disbursement of funds.- Oversee the funding process for scholarships and unrestricted funds.- Ensure compliance with grant agreements, reporting requirements, and legal restrictions governing charitable activities.- Collaborate with program staff, grant recipients, and community partners to support effective grant-making initiatives and outcomes.· Demonstrated expertise in Strategic Planning and Governance:- Participate in strategic planning processes to define organizational goals, priorities, and performance metrics.- Provide financial analysis and strategic guidance to inform decision-making by the President/CEO, Executive Director, and board of directors.- Support board development, orientation, and governance activities, including participation in board meetings, committees, and fiduciary responsibilities.· Demonstrated expertise in Compliance and Risk Management:- Ensure compliance with IRS regulations, accounting standards, and other legal requirements applicable to private foundations.- Assess and mitigate financial risks, including investment risks, operational risks, and regulatory risks.- Implement policies and procedures to safeguard confidential information, protect against fraud, and maintain data security.· Demonstrated success in Leadership and Team Development:- Lead and mentor finance and administrative staff, fostering a culture of excellence, accountability, and continuous improvement.- Provide guidance, training, and professional development opportunities to build staff capacity and enhance organizational effectiveness.- Promote and foster a culture of collaboration, communication, and teamwork across departments to achieve common goals and objectives.
