Job Description

The Golf Controller reports to the Morguard Divisional Controller, for the accounting operations of the US division of ClubLink which owns and operates six and one-half golf courses in the Fort Lauderdale and Sun City areas. This role will also include the production of regular financial statements and reports, maintenance of an adequate system of accounting records, and a comprehensive set of controls and budgets designed to mitigate risk, enhance the accuracy of the company's reported financial results, and ensure that reported results comply with generally accepted accounting principles and international financial reporting standards. 

Qualifications

General Accounting

  • Manages the accuracy and productivity of day to day accounting functions, including general ledger, financial statements, accounts receivable, accounts payable, cash management, payroll and budgeting.
  • Maintains the chart of accounts & ensures proper setup in the accounting system.

Cash Management

  • Authorized check signer and security administrator for all company commercial banking websites.

 Financial Reporting

  • Oversees the monthly/quarterly financial reporting processes to ensure that reports are reasonable, accurate & complete and in accordance with the company’s accounting processes & policies. Manages the timely and accurate creation of financial statements for the organization, including collecting, validating & organizing information in order to accurately assess and report on operating activities and results. Responsible for the preparation of quarterly consolidating financial statements, including working paper files and supporting schedules. Prepares a package of financial reports for quarterly Board of Directors meetings.

Annual Budgeting

  • Supports the budgeting process for all US assets, including the annual consolidated budgets & forecasts, in order to facilitate resource planning, tracking and adjustment procedures for the effective use of corporate resources.

Annual Financial Audits

  • Receives, screens, delegates and ensures that appropriate information requests, from internal and external parties, including external auditors, on financial activities and status are responded to in a timely and accurate manner to facilitate decision making. Liaises with the external auditors and tax advisers and coordinates the annual audit and tax activities.

Corporate Accounting Policies, Procedures & Compliance

  • Develops, implements & monitors internal corporate accounting policies & procedures to ensure integrity of data, compliance w GAAP & regulatory requirements. Ensures proper documentation for internal control processes and procedures.
  • Assists in providing information to external and internal auditors for their periodic reviews. Interface with outside tax advisers & provide information for quarterly tax provisions, annual tax returns and annual T1134 filings.

Support to Operational Management

  • An important part of the role will be establishing relationships, visiting and liaising with senior operational managers at the golf club level. This will also involve ensuring proper lines of communication are established between the operators and accounting/finance personnel.

Team Building, Management and Development of Staff

  • Responsible for interviewing, hiring, planning, assigning, managing, performance reviews and coaching of accounting personnel in addition to monitoring direct and indirect reports to ensure their growth & development meets management’s expectations. Builds & develops a high performing team of professionals in support of the company’s achieving its goals & objectives.

Other and Special Projects

  • Completes certain accounting reconciliations for more complex transactional streams
  • Completes or assists with projects as assigned, including accounting software conversions.

  • Must be able to meet strict deadlines
  • Must be able to work independently
  • Should be able to multitask
  • Overtime must be expected during peak periods
  • Must be open to new challenges

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field (e.g. Accounting, Finance)
  • CPA license
  • Minimum of 10 years of relevant accounting experience
  • Previous experience in golf, hospitality, recreation or real estate would be an asset

Drug test, credit / criminal background check and reliable transportation required.
