Purpose:
The Assistant Buyer plays a crucial role in supporting the strategic growth and market share of our product categories. This position assists in all aspects of product selection, inventory management, and sales strategies to help position our company as a premier destination for home furnishings. By supporting market research, vendor relationships, and cross-departmental collaboration, the Assistant Buyer will contribute to creating a compelling and profitable product assortment that meets diverse customer needs and drives overall business growth.
Core Responsibilities:
Product Selection and Assortment Planning Support
Assist in analyzing market trends, customer preferences, and sales data
Support the curation of a compelling product mix that meets business objectives
Inventory Management Assistance
Help monitor stock levels and turn rates
Assist in maintaining optimal inventory balance across product lines
Vendor Relationship Support
Aid in preparing for vendor negotiations
Help maintain strong partnerships with suppliers
Pricing and Margin Management Support
Assist in setting competitive pricing while maintaining profitability
Support efforts to meet or exceed margin and financial performance targets
Sales and Promotion Planning Assistance
Collaborate with marketing team on promotional strategies
Help identify opportunities for special buys or promotions
Performance Analysis and Reporting Support
Assist in tracking key metrics (e.g., sell-through rates, GMROI)
Help prepare regular performance updates for leadership
Cross-functional Collaboration
Work closely with operations, marketing, and store teams
Support smooth product launches and promotions
Market Intelligence and Competitive Analysis
Stay informed on industry trends and competitor activities
Assist with store visits and competitive shopping
Quality Control and Customer Satisfaction Support
Help monitor product quality and address issues promptly
Analyze customer feedback to inform buying decisions
Forecasting and Demand Planning Assistance
Support projections for future sales and inventory needs
Help adjust plans based on market conditions and business performance
Key Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in Business, Merchandising or related field.
1-3 years of experience in retail, merchandising, or related field
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and data analysis tools
Ability to travel to different company showrooms
Willingness to travel to out-of-state furniture markets
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in home furnishings or related retail sectors
Familiarity with inventory management systems
Understanding of financial metrics in retail
