Mountain Sage Community School is Hiring a Bilingual Paraprofessional Near Fort Collins, CO

Mountain Sage Community School is a public, charter school inspired by Waldorf education and sustainable living, located in Fort Collins, CO, serving kindergarten through 8th grade students.

Mountain Sage is seeking a skilled and passionate Spanish speaking paraprofessional for the 2024-2025 school year. This role will support in immersive, multi-level Spanish classes: assisting our middle school Spanish teacher in differentiating for students at varied proficiency levels in the older grades, and serving as a para in select elementary grade Spanish classes. The position will require adaptability and initiative to learn Waldorf inspired educational strategies to support the children. Mentoring, observations, and collaboration will be provided.

Additional hours will be as a general education paraprofessional. The paraprofessional at Mountain Sage works with a diverse group of elementary and middle school aged children who need extra support in and out of the classroom, supports teachers to provide differentiated lessons in the classroom, and assists as required for various activities, duties, and coverages. The paraprofessional may provide individual and small group instruction in and outside the classroom and may support students having behavioral difficulties. The typical hours are 8am-4pm Monday through Friday during the academic school year.

Minimum Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Support the students and the teachers on a daily basis through:

  • Assisting students with their academic, social, and emotional goals in comprehensible Spanish and English languages
  • Supervising and assisting students in classroom and in non-classroom settings
  • Utilizing the school’s positive behavior intervention and support model across settings
  • Assisting and implementing school discipline measures
  • Communicating students’ progress and needs with appropriate staff and educational team
  • Regular collaboration with lead Spanish teachers
  • Ability to communicate timely and effectively with students and staff
  • Upholding the Waldorf-inspired aspects of our program
  • Working outdoors in a variety of weather conditions
  • Non-classroom coverages such as traffic, recess, lunch, etc.
  • Daily onsite attendance

Required Qualifications

  • Native speaker or fluent in spoken and written communication in Spanish
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks with frequent interruptions
  • Ability to supervise students, and defuse volatile and stressful situations with students
  • Positive attitude and ability to take direction and feedback as well as to collaborate
  • Willingness to learn and follow the Waldorf-inspired underpinnings of our program

Preferred Qualifications

  • Waldorf training and/or experience
  • Previous experience teaching Spanish and/or working with students
  • Interest and/or openness to teaching through singing, creating art with the children and a value for sustainable living practices
  • Exposure to restorative practices
  • Understanding of experiential learning
  • A desire to join the community for multiple years
  • Education or Spanish college course work

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $20.00 - $22.00 per hour
