Mountain Song Community School is Hiring a Student Wellness Specialist Near Colorado, CO

Student Wellness Specialist

Position Purpose

The Student Wellness Specialist, under the direct supervision of the Director of Education and the Director of Student Services, will collaborate with teachers, paras, assistants, mental health team and other staff to support students’ social, emotional and behavioral needs.

Salary: Base Pay 32,000 plus education, years of experience, school loyalty, certifications

Job Responsibilities:

  • The Student Wellness Specialist uses deescalation techniques when responding to support calls and assists students inside and outside the classroom to enable them to fully participate in activities.
  • Restorative practices will be used to resolve conflict reinforcing the school expectations of “Be Safe, Be Kind, Be Respectful, Be Responsible.”
  • The Student Wellness Specialist integrates school approved required technology into and required record-keeping activities.
  • They will actively participate in faculty meetings and related work as required. In carrying out these responsibilities, the Student Wellness Specialist will follow school policy and procedures, standard practices, and will actively and positively support the school vision.
  • The Student Wellness Specialist participates in professional learning opportunities in support of school mission, vision and goals.
  • The Student Wellness Specialist is constantly observant of the needs and challenges of students and promptly engages an administrator or appropriate educational staff associates when the teacher suspects or reasonably believes that a student is at risk or in danger due to such issues as bullying, sexual harassment/misconduct, depression or suicidal ideation, or academic failure.
  • The Student Wellness Specialist assists in the supervision of students at school activities and events. The Specialist remains vigilant of students throughout the school day and the school location, taking the initiative to engage students when students are acting inappropriately or in inappropriate locations for the time of day.
  • The Student Wellness Specialist will establish a professional growth plan and annually review the plan and progress with the administrator.
  • The teacher will perform such other duties and responsibilities as are assigned.

Requirements:

  • HS graduation
  • 3-5 years of experience working with children K-8
  • 3 years of experience working with students with special needs, trauma, and social emotional needs
  • Knowledge of child development.
  • Ability to develop supportive relationships with students, families, school leaders, classroom teachers, and school-based support staff.
  • Passion and urgency for the critical need to address SEL and behavioral health to improve the lives of students and families.
  • Must have successful experience in working with culturally diverse families and communities, or have otherwise demonstrated a commitment to strengthening engagement of a diverse community and skill in communicating with a diverse population.
  • Evidence of continuous professional learning and a commitment to participate in professional growth opportunities and self-reflection on professional practice.
  • Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing with students, and staff.
  • Commitment to effective collaboration and teaming within a professional learning community.
  • Has demonstrated ability to work cooperatively with others
  • Demonstrate punctuality and consistent attendance
  • Follow policies in the Staff Handbook

Physical Demands and Work Environment

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear, is required to stand, walk, sit, use hands and fingers, and is occasionally required to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. Frequently is required to work with computer keyboard, monitor, and other visual technology; and work may include personal contact with children who may be seated on the floor or at low tables. The employee must occasionally lift and move up to 50 pounds. Close vision is required for detailed work. Required work will take place outside and in a classroom and will occasionally be noisy. Working with youth may require exposure to bacterial contamination.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $32,000.00 - $42,000.00 per year
